GamePro has posted an in-depth preview of the upcoming G.I. Joe Rise of Cobra video game.
As far as game play, here is a quick comparison that they made: Throw Contra, Gears of War, and Devil May Cry into a blender and you'll get G.I. Joe, the video game answer to the upcoming blockbuster film. Fans of classic vehicles will see familiar sights.... The Cobra organization isn't easily subdued, and your adventure picks up where the movie's storyline leaves off: whether trouble arises on sand-choked dunes or snowbound arctic wastes or sweltering jungles, you'll fight the good fight against a wide variety of Cobra enemies, from classic H.I.S.S. tanks and Trouble Bubbles to hordes of Cobra troopers and mechanized Big Daddy look-alikes. With waves 14 and 15 cancelled, and the figures in these waves either postponed or put into other assortments like the 2 upcoming 7-packs, the only Resolute figures to buy are in wave 13, the recent 5-pack, and the last 2 comic packs. Yet would you want more?
As in, would you want more characters or figures from G.I. Joe A Real American Hero(ARAH) to get the Resolute treatment? The Resolute characters/figures are modernized versions of our favorite RAH characters, such as Duke, Snake Eyes, Airborne, et al. The Cobra Trooper from wave 13 was a huge step up from the basic version found in the modern era line. Duke from wave 13 is quite possibly the best Duke figure in the line. So the Poll Of the Week(P.O.W.) is: Should Most Of The RAH Characters Get The Resolute Treatment? Share your thoughts by clicking the discuss button below! |

IGN has posted their preview of the G.I. Joe Rise of Cobra video game. One of the new screenshots reveals a new joe, Gung Ho! Another familiar face will show up, our favorite sailor Shipwreck!
To give an idea of how the game will be like, IGN posted the following: Rather than try to compete with today's high profile action games that cost millions to make and are given several years development time, G.I. Joe is being designed as an '80s-style shooter in 3D. Think Contra with Joes, at least in concept. |

The classic game of real-estate gets an extreme makeover! Control the entire G.I. Joe world in a fantasy game of deal-making and risk-taking, collecting the most iconic bases and locations from the 80s G.I. Joe animated series. USAOPOLY began in 1994 with a great idea for a hometown spin on the classic MONOPOLY game. After securing permission from Hasbro to license the world famous property trading game from Parker Brothers®, the San Diego edition of the MONOPOLY game was born, and so was USAOPOLY, Inc. We started with cities, colleges and popular themes like NASCAR, COCA-COLA® and The Simpsons. Over 100 different specialty editions later, USAOPOLY started putting spins on other timeless games we all know and love to play like Chess, Checkers, Tic Tac Toe, Dominoes, Backgammon, Bingo, Cribbage, Poker and Bunco. For over 10 years now, friends and families have been able to rediscover their favorite board games… with a fun, unique USAOPOLY twist. To view the new G.I. Joe Monopoly Tokens click the Title Bar. |

Ideology of Madness has posted part 1 of their G.I. Joe Rise of Cobra script. Bear in mind there may be changes between this script and the final production we see on film in August, as post-editing was initiated last year. Sounds like the action starts early:
The gunship takes out the Blackhawk and all the patrol vehicles. Duke and Ripcord climb out of the lead vehicle to see soldier clad foot soldiers, aka Vipers, brandishing pulse rifles. Ana, the Baroness, is also revealed to emerge from the Typhoon, bloodthirsty for Duke’s hide. To view the complete story, click on the title bar! |

Ideology of Madness has posted part 2 of their G.I. Joe Rise of Cobra script review. Here's something of interest:
From what I hear, a couple of tweaks have been made since this draft, and of course things change when you’re shooting a film, so I’m sure not everything above will stick (I hear Snake Eyes has been made American again), but most of it seems spot on. Ars Technica attended the Gamers Development Conference(GDC) 2009, and were given a walk-through of an early build of the G.I. Joe Rise of Cobra video game.
In their report, they revealed a new, unlockable playable character: It turns out that there will be twelve playable Joes in the game. So far, the list includes Snake Eyes, Scarlett, Ripcord, Heavy Duty, Duke, Gung-Ho, and Shipwreck. Many of these characters have to be unlocked by playing through the game, though. When I asked about Shipwreck, I was told that his look has been updated so he, "doesn't look like a member of the Village People." I was also told that Shipwreck's parrot will be able to drop bombs on targets, which sounded entertaining, but since I didn't get to see him, I can't actually testify as to how the man or his bird look. So there you have it folks, our favorite sailor and his notorious parrot Polly are in the game! |
