With the 2nd wave of Target exclusive, deluxe G.I. Joe Rise of Cobra figures hitting saturation around the holidays, Storm Shadow with Arashikage Cycle has been sighted more frequently. While this figure basically is a repaint of the wave 1 figure with a new belt, since this figure lacks coattails the range of motion is improved exponentially! Just as a ninja figure ought to be.
This deluxe figure set includes the Arashikage Cycle, a vehicle reused from the Valor VS Venom line and repainted in white and red. The Snake Eyes set was done in a similar fashion in the 1st wave. So is the improved range of motion of Storm Shadow coupled with the inclusion of the VVV bike reason enough to buy this set? Hit the discuss button to find out! |

E_only has put the upcoming Doc (Arctic Threat) figure from G.I. Joe Pursuit of Cobra up for auction on Ebay. This figure is exclusive to Toys R Us and is expected to hit retail in early 2010. Arctic Threat Doc will be sold alongside Arctic Threat Shipwreck, following the pattern of having 2 TRU exclusive single carded G.I. Joe figures, which started with the Rise of Cobra line.

HISS Tank boards member Rulz has come through again, this time with images and impressions of Shipwreck (Arctic Threat)! Arctic Threat Shipwreck ships alongside Arctic Threat Doc not too long from now in 2010, both as Toys 'R' Us exclusives! The Arctic Threat theme has proven to be popular in the Rise of Cobra line, so chances are we will see even more arctic figures in Pursuit of Cobra. Could characters such as Sub Zero be on the way?

One of the most impressive figures that debuted at JoeCon2009 was Snow Job (Arctic Threat). Featuring numerous, functional accessories in lieu of a giant missle launcher, this figure left a lasting impression on fans.
With the release of Pursuit of Cobra figures uncertain, fans have resorted to buying the figures from online auctions. At earliest we suspect the figures will be out either before, or during Spring 2010. In any case, everyone loves knowing what their getting themselves into, so without further ado, click on the title bar to see how this prerelease Arctic Threat Snow Job turned out! |

HISS Tank has received a new press release by IDW Publishing, announcing the continuation of the G.I. Joe Rise of Cobra continuity:
G.I. JOE: Operation H.I.S.S. Comic Launches in February IDW releases story continuation of 2009 blockbuster movie San Diego, CA (December 22, 2009) – This February, IDW explores what follows the dramatic ending of this summer's smash-hit movie, G.I. JOE: The Rise of Cobra. Under license by Hasbro, Inc., G.I. JOE: Operation H.I.S.S. focuses on two of the brand’s main characters, SCARLETT and SNAKE EYES, as they combat the latest plot of the evil and menacing COBRA organization. The war against COBRA has only just begun as writer Brian Reed (G.I. JOE Special: Agent Helix) unveils the return of the wildly popular STORM SHADOW character and introduces a sinister new character, brought to life by the dynamic art team of Augustin Padilla and Alex Cal, from the popular G.I. JOE: Origins series. G.I. JOE: Operation H.I.S.S., a five-part miniseries, draws readers into a world of danger that threatens to corrupt the heroic G.I. JOE team member, DUKE. Joe Corroney (Star Trek: Mirror Images) provides the variant covers to the hottest title yet to spin out of G.I. JOE: The Rise of Cobra. “The G.I. JOE: The Rise of Cobra publishing program has been one avenue of support for the film’s storyline—until now. With Operation H.I.S.S., we chart new territory and are adding to the strong mythology developed for the film,” said Andy Schmidt, IDW’s G.I. JOE editor. “This series is not about filling in holes and tying up loose ends, it’s about big, over-the-top action while emphasizing what makes these characters great.” In this latest G.I. JOE adventure, DUKE goes undercover to infiltrate COBRA and encounters MAJOR BLUDD, who makes his first appearance in IDW’s comics. G.I. JOE: Operation H.I.S.S. #1 (of 5) ($3.99, 32 pages) debuts in February. Diamond order code: DEC09 0888. Visit IDWPublishing.com to learn more about the company and its top-selling books. HISS Tank boards member kennywr22 came through last week with some updated information about how the G.I. Joe Rise of Cobra line was doing at Target. While most of the information dealt with the upcoming planograms for January, there was a nugget of information that is of interest for Sigma 6 and Pursuit of Cobra fans:
The rip attack and mech suit things are in the system but no counts even coming to the DC's which means we will see nothing for a while. If you'll remember, back in JoeCon2009, the Hasbro panel showed a teaser image of the Iron Hammer Mech which stated that 3-3/4" mech suits would be coming in late 2010, for both G.I. Joe and Cobra. Being that these suits are already listed in the computers is a good sign, because it isn't even 2010 yet! So chances are these are definitely going to be released. The Sigma 6 Iron Hammer Mech was one of the most popular vehicles in the line. Many a 'Tanker here retooled theirs to accomodate DTC and 25th Anniversary G.I. Joe figures. Images surfaced of the unreleased Shadow Hammer Mech a couple of times, including this past summer. The Shadow Hammer Mech was highly anticipated, and as the saying goes, "good things come to those who wait". Being that it was molded in dark colors, could it now be rebranded as a Cobra release? Since the mech suits are for the Pursuit of Cobra line, and Hasbro's teaser from JoeCon stated 3-3/4", it's an educated guess that these mech suits have been retooled to accomodate 25th Anniversary style construction figures(25th Anniversary/Modern Era/Resolute/Rise of Cobra/Pursuit of Cobra). Could these mech suits also be part of a 5th Anniversary Sigma 6 line? Or will select releases from the Pursuit of Cobra line pay tribute to the 5th anniversary for Sigma 6? Yes folks, by the time Fall 2010 hits, it will have been 5 years since the debut of the popular and sorely missed, Sigma 6 line! |
