So the dust has settled from the chaos that was SDCC.
And for smallville fans, lots of tidbits have come up. Much of which I won't say here for spoilers. (But they are up on my hollywood superheroes blog if you're curious about other cameos.) From this trailer though, it looks like we can expect much more too. Including the return of some JSA members, maybe lex luthor, and more. |

Looks fucking great, I can't wait. But no, there's no Lex coming back. Maybe an old Lex clone but Michael Rosenbaum has not agreed to come back to the show, sadly.

Lex is coming back, that's certain. Whether it's rosenbaum is what's questionable. So yeah, could be a clone, could be rosenbaum, could be a new actor playing original scarred lex or plastic surgery to fix the scars so a new actor is fine, could be the lil kid in the trailer, could be more back of head shots... You name it. Lex was played by a different actor in season 8, so they might not need to go the clone route either. Just a bald man in general could work, if they can't get Rosenbaum back. But yes, Lex Luthor is coming back. No one has said "Rosenbaum is coming back to smallville" the news bite is Lex Luthor is coming back. Actor's don't equate characters, it'd just be nice if they reprised their roles. Last edited by Snowflakian; 07-29-2010 at 01:47 PM.. |

Nice to know you work on the show.

You name it. After "there's no Lex coming back" I specifically said "maybe an old Lex clone" (which is a very strong rumor, supported with the whole "room full of Lex clones" that Tess wakes up in). They will not hire a new actor to play Lex unless it's an old version or a masked version (which they already did and it's doubtful they would try to go that route again). But there's ZERO chance of plastic surgery to fix the scars and get a new actor. Zero. They would never recast Lex for real. Also, the little kid in the trailer is Lex. He's played Lex in flashbacks before. Quote:

So I'll restate it: Lex will be in season 10 in some form, that of an older clone or something they can work around. But a regular aged Lex? They will NOT recast it. They've already said they would never recast him. |

What they say in the past, only stands for that season in question. Not future seasons. Things change, stories evolve. Like all the people who whined about how the superman costumed appearnce in season 9 was a lie, yet there it was at the end of the season, just as they said "not as you'd expect it." They also said Kara would not be returning... Yet here she is in Season 10 too. They also said previously clark will never get the superman costume in this series, yet season 10 will. So like I said, what they say, tends to change as the story evolves. Mind you, I'm not denying there will be Lex clones, but let's be honest here, without having read the episode scripts ourselves, what happens in it, is anyone's guess. Nothing is set in stone as much they claim it was previously. Last edited by Snowflakian; 07-29-2010 at 03:34 PM.. |

My entire point is that is it. That is the extent as to how Lex will be back. When I say recasting, I mean having a new human character that they show his face, and like you said, explain it away with plastic surgery or something. They will not do that. Quote:
They also said Clark will never fly, etc previously.

Which we all know has since changed.

And they never said he would NEVER get the costume. It's always been said "no flights, no tights" with the OLD producers but that never was a rule for the final episode. And as of now, there's still no flight and still no tights. |

Okay, you're not getting it. They hired a bald guy to sit in a chair with a mask on while someone dubbed over it.

When I say recasting, I mean having a new human character that they show his face, and like you said, explain it away with plastic surgery or something. They will not do that. No, the old producers said that. They never changed their minds. New people took over the show in season 8 and we don't know how deeply they are sticking with that. Huh? Clark hasn't flown yet. No they didn't. We don't know if he'll be wearing the costume before the finale. It's in the show but as of now, he's still wearing the black costume up through episode 3 at least. And they never said he would NEVER get the costume. It's always been said "no flights, no tights" with the OLD producers but that never was a rule for the final episode. And as of now, there's still no flight and still no tights. Apparently you didn't watch the trailer very well for the flying. Nor previous episodes where he sorta does, but they skirt the issue by bizarro, or kal-el, among other excuses. As for Kara, they said it in several interviews pertaining to season 9, but it was a global statement insinuating ever, even though you can obviously see she's back for season 10. You aren't the end all be all of correct media information, deal with it. You may be right or wrong, but honestly, unless you actually work on the show, all you're doing is drawing information from various sources. And apparently from your statements, even your info aggregating is limited. But let's not troll each other into inane territory. As I said, things change, stories evolve. Deal with it, it's the nature of the beast. Let's get back to the topic on hand which is the trailer itself. This will go back and forth in the "You're wrong because I said so" department till the season is over, and it's proven one way or the other. In which case, that'll be that. By making 100% certainty statements without basis, and you get proven wrong, you're just going to make yourself look like a fool. Whereas all I'm saying is anything is possible until the episodes themselves air. As originally, Clark was going to get the suit in season 9 anyway, but production got pushed back, so he'll use it in season 10 instead. They opted to do the dream sequence with the costume (which you can see in the reflection) to still show the fans yes we are planning to do it. The original comment about the transition to the costume, was that the black costume is his training suit, once he learns to fly, they'll switch to the red and blues. Also it wasn't just the old producers that said no tights no flights as you so eloquently put it. Tom Welling has been quoted as saying many times, he refuses to wear tights for the show. As for the trailer, it looks like he'll be flying. Of course it could very well be another "super jump" which they've done in the show before as a giant tease for Clark flying. I sure hope he's flying in that shot. Quote:

There was a backup finale in mind but Clark getting the red and blues was not pushed back because of "production". It was never planned for season 9. Quote:

This was also never said. The producers have said he is in the black suit while he has trials to go through before he becomes Superman. They never specifically related it to "once he flies, he gets the costume" though that could end up being the case. And if he IS flying in that trailer, obviously he's in his black costume still.
This is partly true, as in it should be past tense at this point. Refused, not refuses. Last year at Comic Con he said he had changed his stance. As for black costume flying, I said he switches AFTER he learns to fly, which means he does some flying in the black suit first. Like being pushed to finally having no choice to fly or lives will be lost, or being forced to learn to fly from Supergirl, among other bits and concepts they could go with. The statement previously if you had missed it, was the black suit was called his in-training suit, and when he starts flying, they'll switch to red and blues. Though at that time, the red and blue costume was the much disdained rumored one. (Also fruits of change.) You can disavow any knowledge of this bit, but it was something that was said. Like I said before, just because you didn't hear it, doesn't make it not true. As for any other bits, arguing with you is pointless. I'll just let the show itself be the proof, and laugh about this then. Like I did when people said the costume would never appear in season 9 while I said it would. Everything I said before for newsbites though, was mentioned at one point or another, and have graced many sites to coroborate it, just use google, or loot kryptonsite if you must. Though some details I do get from other sources that don't often graze there, google should bring them up though. Just as the changes to the shows mythos that I mentioned had changed, had less to do with the producers, and more to do with the license freedom they've been given from the lack of a movie franchise right now. Which included some last minute season 9 changes I had mentioned before. They had originally planned a lil more in costume action, but well, things change. They had the greenlight for season 10 while they were still filming episode 12 last year. (about a month in the season airing on CW), but some kind of hiccup happened in the back half (literally the last 2 episodes) that made them push the costume usage back further besides the dream scene. Since this was before I decided to keep a blog, I can't quote you a date, but I can verify it's authenticity as a source from the other tidbits that panned true. Damn skippy it will be! We will get a good number of episodes with him in costume. Though the exact number I have no clue this early on. For now, I'm only comfy with saying probably more than 2-3. With all the planned cameos though on top of that? This season will be an epic send off! Considering they only have scripts to about episode 6 or 7 now and filmed up to about 4 or 5 though of the 22 planned, information is sparse in the back half. Let alone the first half. But without the restrictions placed on them before, much is fair game to do entirely, and I bet they'll take advantage of that. The only thing offlimits this go round is GL, Wonder Woman, and Batman. They've been pushing damn hard that the closing shot will be him in costume for the very least, but many of the crew feel it'd be a waste to wait that long and do the costume as only then. I always thought the best way to end it during the "No costume rule" was to have him last EP. in suit and glasses just ripping his shirt open to the screams (Super hearing of course) of someone in need......but with going full costume I couldnt ask 4 more.
Ive been watching from day one ups and downs.....to more ups and they are going to pay off ten years of watching for me atleast....love the show..... |

The whole thing they 'seem' to have planned for lex could be interesting too. The thing you have to remember about clones, is you can't exactly clone memories and personality or experiences. They've done this before with his 'brother' lucas. So this new lex has many rumors flying around that he's a clone, he's original lex with a new body and brain transplant and more theories on top. (Though honestly, the only reoccurring comment is just that, lex will harvest the parts for himself. But again the nature of the beast is change.) Personally, I'd say because of the comics, that's exactly what it'll be, it'll be both a new lex (if rosenbaum won't come back) and original lex (original lex's brain, as per the superman comics story when lex had cancer and faked a fiery plane crash death). Since they tend to do comic references but different quite often. All in all though, I've loved what they've done with the show since the franchise was allowed to open up more. Cameo eps are what kept me coming back. Then the fact they actively want him to use his costume for a few scenes(or episodes) has me extremely excited. Add in Hawkgirl, blue beetle, booster gold, and skeets? Hell yes I'm excited, and this is before even Darkseid, nightshade, and the other people of apokolips coming in. I can't wait for the return of marsters either. This season is going to rock. I just wish they were further along in filming. xD This trailer only covers the first coupla episodes, mostly just 1-3. |

I knew it was parademons that snagged Oliver, but no one believed me.....and what gave it away was Granny (Although she doesnt look like one in the comics)

I haven't watched the series in a while, and I don't really like Superman but I am glad a series that people like and has a cool setting too it finally gets to run for this long.
