Yo just wanted a little bit of help from the ARK. I mainly collect marvel legends but i am not wanting to start collecting some transformers. I have been looking at the animated voyager class shockwave which looks like a really cool figure. However there is so many lines I only wanna try to stick to one.
Articulation is important so im not looking to collect the old ones. Should i start of with shockwave and collect animated, Or is there a line you guys suggest i collect that i will be happier with. Thanks dudes. Deckard

If you're a G1 fan at all, take a look at the Masterpiece line. The new Optimus Prime (MP-10) that's currently out in Japan (for $250) is coming as a TRU exclusive this fall, and they're apparently greatly expanding the line with Soundwave, Sideswipe, & Red Alert all coming soon. There's a new version of Starscream that was recently released in Japan that should eventually come out here too, so the only things you'd be missing at this point would be Rodimus and Grimlock (that are in scale with the now on-going MP line). There was an older Prime and Megatron that are larger, though, too.
They're pricey but well worth it. I'm about to start whittling down my TFs and they're the only ones I'm 100% sure I'm keeping. |

Yeah I like the look of the MP line alot and the starscream looks amazing. I only really like his OG look. How he looks now in prime annoys the hell out of me, That said the MP line is a little to expensive. My funds mainly go to marvel legends so transformers was meant to be like a side collection i could just pick up for fun. Collecting TF MP is like hottoys of transformers lol

Just depends what you like. . .if you like Animated, that's a good line to collect. The toys are done well. If you like G1, then the CHUG (Classics/Henkei/Universe/Generations) has a lot of good stuff.
If you want to not spend a lot, you might want to stick with Animated or Transformers Prime. A lot of CHUG stuff goes for 2x or 3x original retail price. TF Prime you can probably get at retail. I don't think Animated toy prices have gone up that much.

it all depends on aesthetic taste. for me, its the CHUG stuff, its my perfect line. On the other hand, animated and prime toys do nothing to satisfy me.

I would say ignore everyone's comment "Collect this, don't collect that."
Collect what you like. Every line has great figures, and complete rubbish figures. Every TF line. No exceptions. So if you like the Animated Shockwave, go ahead and get it. If you prefer Classics Starscream, go ahead and buy him. And if Cybertron Optimus Prime seems like the coolest one, go ahead and roll with it. If Transformers is just a side project, then I think you're far better off buying toys that seem cool to you, over trying to exclusively adhear to one line. Especially with the rest of the rather insane fandom going... well... insane over stupid things and driving up the prices to rediculous levels. I think you'd be much more satisfied with a collection that you enjoy than one that conforms to the standards of a fandom you're not really apart of. That said, screw 'em all. Nothing outrocks Beast Wars! Also, it's a really cheap line to collect because "ZOMG! NOT GEEWUN!!!" There are very few really pricey pieces, and they're usually onscreen characters.

I don't know shit about transformers but can also see the appeal of them. I tried to get into the line but it just wasn't for me |

Thanks a lot for the reply dude. You are a cool guy. And I went for the shockwave because he looks so damn cool. And im gonna get that electrostatics soundwave also. That thing is beast as hell. Thanks for the help. I think for me the transformers animated line has a good styilized feel and great articulation. Also they are still really cheap lol

Sorry if it has already been suggested, choose 'Generations' it's where it's all at. MP's have been mentioned, and you may enjoy the 3rd party upgrades from FansProject etc.

when i was rounding up TF's, i collected C.H.U.G, G1, Alternators/Binaltech, and Masterpiece. i never got into Animated, but the SHOCKWAVE is legit. i prefer the purple version, but its still a great toy. for a slow start, i'd start with CHUG and work your way up. |

If you like Animated Shockwave, you should check out Energon Shockblast. That's a superior Shockwave in my opinion, and Fall of Cybertron Shockwave looks pretty good. The best figures in Animated to me were Prowl, Samurai Prowl, and Ultra Magnus.

I would start with the Transformers Classics line. It may be a little spendy but they are some of my favorites. Plenty of articulation and just great figures in general.

I've always felt partial to the RID line myself. Pretty good articulation and a lot of different varieties of cars and such. Never really cared for any other line after Armada, which is also good.

As said before I got rid of my movie TF and only sticking to Generations, MP's and completing the Prime line. I personally like the Prime figures, plus they're the newest TF's currently out there, besides the Generations. |

Animated does have a lot of really good figures, AND they're all relatively cheap. Some are rare and outliers (cliffjumper, for example) but most can be found for retail or less on ebay.
I can recomend Jazz, Roddy, Voyager Prime, Leader Bulkhead, Shockwave (though try to dig up the Target version that's purple), and Blurr. Peaugh's reviews on youtube are worth watching for that line, it can help you pin down which figs to look for. |

C.H.U.G. probably provides the most character variety currently, especially when you consider third party figures that have been produced in this scale.
Animated has quite a variety, but there are unlikely to be any new Animated figures created in the future. TF Prime is also currently limited as the series is still young. I love Masterpiece, but there simply aren't very many available characters. Alternity is probably among the most limited as far as available characters. Binaltech & Alternators are cool and provide accurate 1:24 scale alt modes, but these too have a limited number of available characters. I think signs point toward CHUG if you intend to ever develop a completionist's mentality or try to develop a wide roster of characters. If you are comfortable in the Animated universe, you should still have a good time. |
