If you are an old school sci-fi geek like me than you will be very excited before 2020 is over. In 1975 I was 8 years old and living in New York. Back then Star Trek was on channel 11 at 6 pm and then we got a double dose of Sci Fi at 7pm with Space1999 right after.
When you are 8 you really didn't care about plotlines or characterization. You watched for cool spaceships and hardware. Since that year I have been waiting for some company to put an accurate comlock and stungun on the toy shelves. There were some toys but they never looked like what I saw on the show. Mattel put out some dolls, not action figures, and decided not to get the uniform colors right. Nothing was done "right".Until now, 45 years later. A company called 12 Sixteen of England is putting out accurate toy prop replicas with light and sound of the Space1999 hardware this summer.Think DST Trek phaser and Communicator but moonbase alpha style. This will be followed up by the most accurate 6 inch action figure line from the series to date. Now here is the catch: they are in limited numbers and I have only found one importer here in the states for these and they are sold out. So you will have to see what you can do directly with 12 sixteen if you want to get your hands on these. Also not one toy forum has picked up on these and by time they do,the figures and props will be all gone. You heard it here. Happy hunting. Last edited by Slackr; 05-25-2020 at 10:35 AM.. Seems that it's an obscure show that no toy forum has decided to cover it, I'm not surprised.
I don't care about this one. |

As I stated, it's old school 70s.And if you were around back then it was not obscure. That same decade gave us a little something called Star Wars. Plus my age bracket seems to have a bit more expendable income. Thus toy manufacturers want to reach those with deeper pockets, especially if they have licenses from properties from the 70s and prior. So in short,I found some interesting toy news and wanted to share it. Obviously for fellow fans. I dont care that you dont care. Finally, if you dont care why did you even bother reading my post? The subject matter was pretty clear in the title.

I was just looking up how to go about getting a stun/kill pistol. lol. Resin kits are pretty cheap ($30ish) But most everything from Space 1999 is on the more expensive end (an Eagle can get super crazy expensive) I would buy up anything Space 1999 related that came out... If a UK company is finally making some decent 6in figures I HAVE to get my hands on them- I think if any US company went with bringing Space 1999 here it would be DST.

I've seen the preorders for the 6 inch figures, they look pretty good.

Hey Bo Ttef, thanks for putting the link in there. I forgot to. Like you, I was looking at the cheap resin kits too but when I saw these in the video with the lights and sounds, I said forget the kits.

Not something I have any interest in covering. Moved over to the Toy General Discussion area

I enjoyed this show, I would enjoy 4" action figures from the show, with playsets and vehicles. The Eagle would be awesome but expensive, however the moon buggys would be perfect.

Space 1999 was pretty cool...I was a "UFO" man myself.

Yup, UFO was the 1999 predisessor. I use to have the lunch box because that was the only thing available from that show at the time. Being that I was only 6 or 7 at the time, I didn't quite get it. They were in space, on earth, underwater. It was pretty confusing for me. 1999 was easier to get. It was like Trek but they were stuck on the moon and could not control where they were going. But UFO had the cool ships, explosions and purple hair, which kept me watching.

Space 1999 could have been better if they had learned to do what ST Voyager did later in the run with things like the Delta Flyer. Introduce someone in the moon crew who was a tinkerer to create or soup up stuff. A souped up moon buggy would have been cool and a war eagle module for those occasions where a fight was necessary even cooler.

Yeah...I had the lunch box too. The "HOT GIRLS' From S.H.A.D.O!!! Well..they were in the 70s. The interceptor was always my favorite. "One Shot" Nuke and Booom!!! No more UFO.
The Dinky Toys, interceptor would cost a few, especially if it were complete. Bandai made a model of the interceptor. You see a few of them for sale. They will cost you too. Well, back to Space 1999...=^)

Love the show, always have, even with its faults. It seems that Sixteen 12 does some quality stuff, but yeah, pricey. I gotta admit that I pulled that ripcord on the 6" figures - the only 1999 figures ever released in that size, too good to pass up. I think the prototypes have a few sculpt and paint issues, namely Helena and Alan. Koening looks spot on. Not sure about the Light and Sound Stun Gun and Commlock...I don't think the Commlock was that grey on the show. The Stun Gun looks great however...

Angie at Sixteen 12 sent out an email to customers this morning with photos of the first test shots of the Stun Gun and Commlock. I wish I could post them but I don't have those privileges yet. I'm sure they'll probably at least be on the Facebook page eventually. She also specifically addressed delays - apparently they have stock of other items waiting to be shipped, but the freighters won't sail unless they are at 100% capacity. And since factories have also slowed their output, it's taking longer to get a full load of freight. I'm thinking the Stun Gun/Commlock combo won't be available till November or December. I'm hoping they'll also post pics of the action figure test shots once they're ready. I do like that Sixteen 12 has a very personal touch to their customer service!

Saw that thanks. I have some disappointment with this news. It looks like there are no hip or knee joints. For me, this makes them statues or dolls. Not much action in an action figure without knees just standing there.
