Non-TF: Spectreman DVD cover (wip) - TFW2005 - The 2005 Boards
Hey guys, I just thought I'd share with you something I've been tinkering around with for a little while. My best friend is into old Japanese shows, with his favorite being the Godzilla series. He finally got the whole series after years of hunting several copies down at cons and on ebay. Another show he introduced me to was the subject of this thread, Spectreman. In the same vein of interesting sci-fi fantasy (and campiness), Spectreman paved the way for many other shows. He lent me his copies of the Spectreman DVDs, and I decided I'd make my own box art since I'd have to make my own copies as well. So far, what I have posted here is what I have so far. I'm not entirely sure where I'll end up with this piece. When I create digital illustration, I tend to use a heap of layers, many of which are just subtle transparencies. I've always enjoyed creating the layering that Photoshop allows so easily. The text is Japanese for "Spectreman" (at least as far as I can tell from my research). I am going for a cleaner look for the cover while trying to evoke a sense of nostalgic, sci-fi-ish imagry. Pretty much anything is an improvement over the cheap covers on the original copies :lol I hope you enjoy my work! |

Thanks man! I'm still not finished with it. I want to keep editing it until it's right to me as well as adding some information about the DVDs themselves and such. My approach to this DVD cover set (it's a 3-disc set) is to focus a lot more on the design and less on the technical info things (summary, etc.).
