Sorry for newb question.
How come my Hasbro Black 6" Obi-Wan box is different that the rest that I have? They all say 2014 on the back but Obi has no window on top and the color strip inside is orange instead of blue. |

That's just the original release.

Of course, this would be one of the rare moments in which SNL would actually be funny again and lampoon so perfectly a segment of pop-culture...pretty funny stuff "I have three of each: one to display, one to open, and one just in case!" "Why???" lol Last edited by TheBlueMarvel; 12-13-2015 at 03:15 PM.. |

Sure, the 'mint on card' collectors were skewered in those moments...but the skit as a whole, put on blast adult collectors in a general sense by attacking common tropes within our community. I'm not mad at them. Hell, I celebrate the fact that they (SNL) had a rare moment of 'funny'...you have to be able to laugh at yourself! |

Sorry was putting the part that made soda come out my nose. I personally thought they pegged alot of adult collectors perfectly and it wasn't over the top.
I almost expected them to be in clothes way too small or in some way showed they smelled or had food stains on themselves. Seems alot of people think these type of things when they think of adult collectors. Or that were subterranean dwellers living in our parents basements

Ok, I see now. lol I laughed pretty hard at the, "or you could keep them in the box and never touch them!" ....the "Doug Vader" got me too...the need to correct a child was funny and spot on in how trite we can be about the things we love.

I'm sure it takes all of your strength not to scream, "IT'S WOLVERINE GODDAMMIT...HE'S A PATHOLOGICAL MURDERING ANTI-HERO WHO'S TO BE RESPECTED AND REFERRED TO BY USING ONLY HIS PROPER NAME!!!" ...yeah, been there. A friend of mine used to work in a LCS in the 90's and he told of tales about little children (I mean little - barely older than toddlers - 4-5 maybe?) coming into the store and asking for "X-man" while pointing towards Wolverine toys/comics/posters/etc. We laughed at how crazy it was that Marvel was actively marketing a maniac to kids (I still laugh at this fact)...even going as far as to make plush dolls of, as your niece so aptly put, "knife-hand guy." lol still too funny... |

After we watched the trailer for the upcoming The Force Awakens flick, he remarked of Harrison Ford that "Luke" sure is looking old. After pretty much screaming at him that it was Han Solo he had seen, I very nearly sent him to his room... Damn Darkside must be getting to me! |

So I take it that it is preferable to have the first release?

If your a mint collector I think so. Not sure what other factors go into what's preferable.

I thought I was pretty cool with this sort of thing. I rather enjoyed my son naming folks his way when he was younger: "Fire Guy" for Human Torch or "Evil Plant Lady" for Poison Ivy. Apparently now that he's ten, my patience for such slight transgressions has completely faded...

For an opener there is absolutely no difference but honestly since it is the Obi Wan figure which didn't sell well at all in either release it doesn't make any real difference here either. If they were going to re-release someone like Boba Fett or Darth Maul then having the orange barred original would be more valuable but since Obi Wan peg warmed in both package schemes it's purely up to your aesthetic preference.

On the Obi Wan Kenobi Black Series figures, I remember reading somewhere or another that the re-release had slightly different paint apps on his sideburns, which had a lot more gray on them from the original release, which was a lot more subtle. Maybe someone who collects these MiB might be able to put this rumor to rest with a comparison? Last edited by Trivial Psychic; 12-14-2015 at 12:10 AM.. |

That SNL skit is pretty great. But even if I had the money I still don't think I'd buy 2 (or 3) just to keep one in box!
Anyway, I grabbed more blind bag Micromachines if you'd like to take look at a Scotsman opening toys. I like the blind bags, trying to resist any of the sets thoughave. Even though they're small real estate in my collection is now a bit of a commodity.

That skit was hilarious, and definitely spoke to me. I'll admit...I've been guilty of buying one to keep in the box, one to take out, and one "just in case."
It started to take up too much room though, and I needed to cut back, so the "just in case" figs ended up going to the friendly Marines with Toys For Tots last year. Seeing the smiles on those guy's faces last year was one hell of a reward, especially when they saw a bag full of Star Wars, Marvel and DC Universe, and one or two Marvel Legends action figures as opposed to the normal cheap (but still good, as all donations are awesome) stuff they normally get. Not to campaign or preach, but remember Toyarkers, underprivileged kids like articulated goodness too as much as 5poa Titan heroes! We're blessed to be able to partake in this hobby of ours. Instead of snagging that last Black Series Kylo Ren to keep in the box when you already have one or two, give someone else who might not have a chance to feel the love and excitement that we do as collectors and toy enthusiasts. While this skit is all in good humor, it does sum up how the rest of the general public feels about us. Together, we can break that stereotype. Don't forget to pay it forward! There is one oddity in that SNL skit, some of those adults had the 5-POA figures! Don't they know that a lot of the adult collectors are shunning that line?! Seriously though that line isn't terrible but I do really only see kids wanting those. On Force Friday when my TRU had all of the first 5-POA figures there was only one adult flipping through them and they only took like some flame troopers and Kylo Ren otherwise that section was all for the kids who thankfully had their pickings.

Finn is already a "BAD MO-FO!!" He's a brotha' in space. Mind you, he's a brotha' in space...in a Star Wars movie! Heretofore a prestigious title only held by one Billy Dee Williams and one Samuel L Jackson! Pretty rarefied air indeed! lol ...and yes we need more brothas/sistas in space and everywhere else! ...just sayin' |
