Well, I got up way too early for football Saturday, so I started rearranging things in my studio. I had a shelf with some GI Joes, Transformers and some reference books on it, but it really was becoming a catch-all. So I decided to convert it to all things George Lucas (ie. Star Wars and Indiana Jones). After a day, this is what I ended up with:
I started making dioramas out of some foamcore and other scraps of material laying around the house. I'm pretty happy with the Max Rebo Band I need to finish painting it. The other diorama that I started was an Ewok village (for the ever-growing Ewok collection). I started off with some cardboard tubes. The larger ones are used for shipping banner material to print shops and the smaller tubes are the cores that the banner material is rolled on. The rest of the construction is a low-grade illustration board and styrene. Here's a picture of the final base construction: I used Hydrocal for texture. It's the same stuff used for model railroad landscapes. It didn't take too long for the Hydrocal to dry and I quickly shot it with spray paint This is how it looks at the end of Day 1. I still need to get some bamboo or something to cover the platforms, finish painting, make rails and some stairs between the levels. I also need to make a background. |

Nice! I was thinking about making Jabba's palace since I got the dancers and saw the guy w/ the big drum in the background of the box. I like how you have the formcore layered to form the steps. They seem to be at the right scale.
lol. I've noticed the Ewok selection is growing too. Have you considered some thin, long strips of balsa wood for the platforms? |

You know... the balsa route may be cheaper. I'll give that a try.
