I think the fact that it lights up is what is really going to drive the cost up. I just have to have this though so it can be displayed with the upcoming Play Arts Kai MGS1 figures.

Yeh by all the pics/video this thing will probably be around the same price as the avatar ampsuit from sideshow, meaning like $1000. it's suppose to be limited numbered editions. so save up while you can. amazingly awesome figure, but waaaaaaaaaay out of my price range. idea for the mods would make 1 hell of a top price for the month lol.

According to the threeaonline Blog, MGS Rex and Ray will be sold directly through Bambalandstore.com. I would imagine that they will be made available through official 3A retailers, SideShow and Goodsmile Co. around the same time though since this is a very commercial property. The more I think about it, I would actually like to see Rex done even bigger. Has any one seen this light up railgun test video yet? Lightup Railgun

kackreiz.net » Blog Archive » Metal Gear Rex Papercraft I've been seeing a lot of MGS inspired walker artwork around and some of the designs are real inspiring. I might take a shot at making my own at some point. |

Yeah, I'm pretty stuck on 1/18th scale and after having a look around at just how big Rex is, a figure that would fit that scale would be massive. I did find a papercraft site that has downloadable templates for making your own Rex. I think the scale is pretty wee but Kinkos or some place like that could blow it up and print it out. Even then the template could be transferred over to plastruct for something more sturdy.

That's really cool. I bought a ton of polystyrene sheets for dirty cheap from the Pearl Art store near me when they liquidated all their stuff before closing down. I have been going crazy trying to think of a project to use them for. I think I might take a shot at making a Rex with these templates. Probobaly in a much larger scale.

Extra info on Rex
http://www.threeaonline.com/blog/wp-...11/11/rexy.jpg No price yet but the figure is standing roughly at 19" tall, very pose-able and would roughly be in the Sigma 6 2" figure range for scale... Roughly. |

I really would love to get a look at the joint system for this beast and what they are using to support all that weight/mass. I've seen some of what was done for the larger Transformer figs like Unicron but since these guys are relatively smaller then Hasbro and the like so I wonder what their production is like.
Yeah, this is an inspirational piece of art but there is absolutely now way I can afford this guy. I am still guessing $500-$600 range and I just cannot justify that for a single figure, even if he is over 19" of awesome. |

You are not doing much for my attempts at keeping a cheery and optimistic outlook on these kinds of situations.
Still, you raise an interesting point; 3AA has been able to command some impressive prices for their products, most of the waves of figures they release is the same mold but a flip-flop of gear and different paint apps. They also seem to go with a limited run of figures, (if you don't get it now good luck getting it later.) and regardless they are still sold out of their product. If they go the route that you are talking about which would indicate a finite product with a collectors price then $1000 would probably be too cheap. I don't know, it's all speculation and I have no idea just how these guys run their business. My guess is we will see a price for this guy before the year is out, hopefully we will be surprised at it's affordability but being a bit on the cynical side I am opting for being the kind of guy who will just collect pictures of it from the web as that is the closest I am going to get to owning one. |

Ashley Wood has already said that the pricepoint is nowhere near $1000. Speculation is in the 500-600 range.
Look at the Caesar that is 16" and sold for around $250. WWR Heavy Bramble are 13-14" and sell for $250. Same for the Mongrol. All of these are huge figures and priced high although the price points are ridiculous. I bet this Rex is going to be $450.

That's good to hear, I thought the 5-6 range was more around what they would ask for it but I've seen some other companies charge some outlandish prices for their product so I wasn't going to put it past them. Still, $500 is out of my range.

The big difference with this one and the Caesars is the electronics. It has a good number of LEDs in it. I am thinking between $350 and $450. Leaning more towards 4-450 range though.

That is true although the standard Caesars I'd think have more paintwork put into them with the weathering and rust effects along with the weapons that need to be done.
I only see 3 LED's being used and even then, LED's are really cheap. Im not even interested in the Rex although im hoping its $500 for all the fans on here that do want one.

ThreeA Metal Gear Rex Update - Estimated Price
Estimated price revealed in this week's newsletter. About $490 which is pretty spot on with what we were all thinking. Glad to hear that they aren't thinking of much higher than that. But wondering how much that price could change... |
