We need Thundercats Classics to return, not this, but at the same time I guess they look kinda cool. Would rather have Classics return.

I remember the Iron Studios announcement from last year and naturally assumed they were going to do normal versions of the 80s characters. So a little disappointed there but as far as SD interpretations, I think they look pretty cool and dynamic. I'll be getting all of them.

At this point, the action figure license has probably reverted back to WB. I think there's close to zero chance Mattel would pick that back up. I really believe there needs to be a show or movie out there for this license to have any chance at being a long running figure line.

Think our only hope of ever getting a figure line out of his IP is to have companies ignore it for so long, thinking there's zero profit in it, that it's able to be acquired by a small studio who then turns to crowdfunding to get out the entire cats roster at once, with probably the mutants as stretch goals.

Anyway, Brian Flynn of Super7 said on a He-Man podcast in April that they are trying to get the Thundercats license from WB for a fourth time, and are closer than they have ever been to getting it. Make of that what you will, as he has teased Thundercats for years, while at the same time acting rather disinterested in the brand in general and seemed annoyed whenever he was asked about it. And he mentioned that "another company made stuff exactly like stuff we pitched" so Classics may not even be a priority. I would love for the Four Horsemen style Thundercats to continue under Mattel or even Super7 or just the Four Horsemen themselves, but at this point I'm starting to hope Hasbro will get the license. |
