Too little to late imo. Playmates had an oppitunity with the SHredder and blew it. Goodby to you...goodbye to you.....
The promised fans if it sells they will make. The Turtles sold well and then they canned the Shredder. With NECA making their Shredder...GOODBYE PLAYMATES!!!!!! |

This classics line is just garbage. All it is is like a few different sets of the four turtles and BeBop and Rocksteady. Wow, so unimpressed. They could be making tons of cash if they just did a real classics line like Mattel is doing with MOTU and now Thundercats. Too bad for them I guess. First Gokin will take all the cash they could be getting.

While they all look okay overall, why couldn't they put some paint in the open mouths? It looks really cheap. Oh right, Playmates.

i don't think they look bad at all. if someone can show me the previous ones that have been talked about so i could compare that would be cool. i honestly myself prefer their 90s cartoon and movie looks as opposed to the new designs....

I don't think these look as bad as everyone else does, but I think I'll hold out with my fingers crossed that Neca will produce a set of the video game figures without the video game paint apps like they did with the Michael Keaton Batman. Those look incredible and their Shredder looks like the one I always wished someone would make.

I honestly wonder how you can look at Leo and Mikey's faces and say they don't look bad.
These are honestly kind of embarassing to look at. Even ignoring the fact that they don't look a damn thing like the 1990 turtle's face designs, they look almost disfigured. |

you know.. when they original released the classic turtles, i'll admit, i was excited. but after having them, they're just not good. i mean, they have some good articulation.. but the molds just don't look good to me anymore, the eyes are horrible, and the expressions just don't work. i look at them now and wonder why i was even excited for them in the first place. i'm just glad i found them at toys r us and didn't resort to paying eBay or local comic book shop prices for them. and i certainly didn't buy the later movie versions. they should also be embarrassed after looking at what neca has done. the bright colors, the nice proportions, the great looking sculpts.. the turtles are enormously popular these days.. you'd think playmates would've had a couple extra dollars to spare for some really nice looking turtles for collectors. but no.. we get reused molds with terrible new head sculpts and some accessories to make it feel like you're not totally getting ripped off. and that's not to mention how much money they must be saving by not fully articulating their 4" figures or adding the proper paint apps. i know on the packaging of most toys it says something like "final product may be different" or something similar.. but i've never seen the amount of missing paint between production figure and official photos that playmates has. it's truly unbelievable. ah well.. like i said at TFW.. at least the figuarts turtles will be out soon enough. and hopefully we'll see some villains from them. what they've done looks fantastic. i hope it really takes off for them. i'd love to have the cartoon turtles that we're getting, the cartoon villains (and other various good guys), then movie 90's movie versions of the turtles with shredder, super shredder, tokka and rahzar.. and hell, i'd even like out of the shadows turtles, shredder, bebop, rocksteady, and krang. the only thing i'm worried about with figuarts is the scale. i just have a feeling that if they do villains they won't be properly scaled with the turtles. but i guess with those, the figures will be so nice that it'll be a little more forgivable than it was with playmates. |

I actually really enjoy the classics line, except for the movie figures. The 4 toon turtles and bebop and rocksteady are awesome imo. It's a shame they never did Shredder and Krang, but they're good while they lasted.

Everything from the neck down are just fine on these guys. Most of the heads however? Not so much.

^ Agreed. I love the classics line, toon turtles. I don't think I'll ever replace them. Unless NECA makes regular versions of their SDCC set.

Yes, definitely agree! They made those figures years ago too. They should have released like 10 different characters by now.I wish they would have just stuck with the cartoon line. Shredder, Krang, Casey, April, Splinter, ect. would have been awesome! I guess cartoon versions with multiple heads are the next ones they'll make

Honestly I'm straining to see what's bad about the head sculpts. The animated ones look fine to me. Is it the facial expressions that's putting people off? Maybe I haven't watched the 88 cartoon in so long I can't tell what's off.

I think the problem is, these are supposed to be based off of the 2nd movie, Secret of the Ooze. The heads don't really match up well to that, nor do the paint schemes at all, not that the 1st movie classics figures had accurate paint either.

Can we assume from here on in (this and every other figure site on the interwebs) that not everyone automatically knows what scale the figures in question are in just by looking at them?

As someone who has never picked up any of the classic line, I really don't understand why everyone is hating on these so much. Yeah, I get the paint on the eyes could be better, but they have included so much in the package that you get a lot for $20. I guess I just wanted to say if you don't like them cool, but I don't have the same complaints that a lot of people are talking about. These are basically modern articulated Marvel legends, but they came out long before Legends got the memo. |
