Did that really happen? Toy collecting (through retail) has been bad for almost a year now. I remember when Target had a sale where not only were MU figures marked down but they were BOGO. Now there isn't a thing worth buying, but I guess thats good because I couldn't buy them anyway.

Well, to be fair, I was referring to the secondary market and not retail. For those who want to read up on the news story we posted and the resulting comments go here:

I watched it off and on, flipping between it and something else.
My problem isn't with what he does, or with the current crop of scalpers. My problem is that a lot of non-toy collectors have the stereotype that any old toy is worth money, and that all the current toys will be worth money 20 years from now. (And in fact, I know a few toy collectors who have that stereotype, too) My worry is that this will only serve to push this stereotype further.

Its on the DVR, haven't had the chance to watch it. But my douche senses are tingling.
Of course it doesn't help that in most of those type of shows I don't really think highly of the people doing all the buying. Something just rubs me the wrong way... |

He's also either intentionally misinformative, or he's not as informed as he thinks he is, because there was definately some wrong information in there, when he starts talking about toylines. (Such as declairing that MASK was a predecessor to Transformers)

The guy reminds me of that gay comedian "ant" haha. I thought a lot of his prices were reasonable from the sounds of it. I question the "Boba Bett" tou.

Just watched it today where he had the missile firing Boba Fett. Pretty cool show. It's on the same vein as Hollywood Treasure. I'll have to remember to dvr the series.

Some of the stuff he finds is cool (Boba, Bubbler) and he seems like he's not out to rip people off like the tall guy on American Pickers. It's a decent diversion to end the weekend.

It was a mediocre show at best. I got the feeling that the people he bought from were only involved because they wanted to be on tv, and they didn't really need the money. Plus, everyone was involved with the industry, so it all just seemed very fake. And that guy at the end? Was he a drug dealer or something? I mean, who spends $17,000 on an action figure and doesn't even know the character's name?

I don't see how this can be a recurring show, he could barely find stuff for the pilot.

Finally got around to watching the pilot. Can't say I'm impressed, though.
0:10 - I'd say SDCC has NYCC beat by a few thousand people, as far as "biggest event of the year for toy collectors" is concerned. 3:14 - No, MASK was not the precursor to Transformers. Transformers debuted in 1984, a full year before before MASK debuted in 1985. Get your facts straight or get a dictionary. 6:59 - No, the planet was changed from Kashyyyk to Endor (and Wookies became Ewoks) due to budget and script re-writes, not intentionally to make the series more "family friendly." Lucas himself has said this on numerous interviews. 12:56 - I call BS. He owns the oldest comic shop in Cincinnati and was around when Kenner first made Star Wars figures. He knew enough to call it a "Rocket-Firing Boba Fett" and he has no idea how much it's worth? Yeah, total set-up.
