The Transformers Asia Facebook page has followed up on their previous tease of a new release in the Asia Premium Series of Movie toys with a picture confirming the APS-2 will be a redeco of Leader Class Decepticon Brawl. The picture though is a total tease using inverted colors, preventing anyone from getting a proper look at the toy.
Fear not though, because through the magic of Photoshop, Singapore Transformers Fan Group Planet Iacon have removed most of the photoshopping to reveal what this new Leader Brawl might actually look like. As with the Striker Optimus Prime, this Leader Brawl takes the 2007 Leader mold and gives it a full-on Premium Series redeco. If official, non-photoshop tease images are released by Transformers Asia look vastly different to this we will update you here. For now, enjoy this first look at Decepticon Brawl's premium deco. |

Hasbro's month of reveals via their Official Transformers Facebook page continues, with our first official images of the recently leaked Beast Hunters Deluxe Ripclaw, showing off her true colors, as well as giving a better look at her beast mode.
Ripclaw also bears a striking resemblence to Ser-Ket in the currently running IDW Transformers Prime: Rage of the Dinobots miniseries. |

Third party group FansToys has released new prototype photos of their Generation 1 Shockwave homage, Quake Wave. This Masterpiece-scaled figure is an extremely close representation of everyone's favorite Decepticon cyclops, down to his iconic yellow eye, laser cannon arm, and most importantly, rubber hose.
While we do not yet have any concrete release information, it is rumored that this figure will be shipping sometime in Q1 2013, and retail for around $150. Again, please remember that this is a third-party product not produced or endorsed by Hasbro or Takara. |

A new item revealed today by way of a listing on Robot Kingdom is the Bot Shots Dragon Track set. It's not entirely clear what is going on with this set - though the appearance of a dragon on the box suggests the set is somehow connected to the Transformers Prime Beast Hunters theme. The set comes with a pair of Bot Shots - an all-new mold Optimus Prime and a second (Decepticon?) Bot Shot who looks like a purple dragon or jet. The set also includes two launchers and a "spinning dragon pit".
We know from the San Diego Comic Con 2012 that the Bot Shots line is diversifying with new kinds of Bot Shots including Flip Shots and Spin Shots. Could this track set be another part of the diversification of this sub-series? |

The official Transformers Facebook page has posted a "beast" update of a different nature today. In 2013 the Transformers Collectors Club is introducing us to Beast Wars Shattered Glass - a new team of Maximals featuring some familiar faces and led by Ultra Mammoth (a reformatted Ultra Magnus) are up against tough odds. The story features the Autobot team led by Ultra Magnus on the Hyperion, previously seen in the Botcon 2007 Games of Deception comic. Notable Transformers fan Ben Yee had a hand in creating the story and calls it "a bit off-beat, but fun".
Visit the Transformers Facebook page to check out the single page preview of the 2013 Transformers Collectors Club comic. And visit the Transformers Collectors Club homepage to find out how to sign up for the club to get the comic as well as the membership exclusive pre-Beast Wars Depth Charge figure and that Botcon discount. |

2005 Boards member uranusdd has shared with us a look at the Transformers Platinum Edition Year of the Snake Energon Optimus Prime and Omega Supreme in their packaging. The packaging truly lives up to the "premium" billing these toys have received, with a nice red backdrop and gold foil effect combined with nice snake effects in traditional Chinese style in the shape of the Autobot sigil - and that is just the backdrop to the character art.
Check out the in-package image, attached to this story. |

One of the great mysteries of the Transformers fandom, up until now, was what happened to Jason Jansen, the child actor who played Tommy Kennedy in the little-known fifth season of Transformers Generation 1 - the rerun season which introduced each episode with bridge segments featuring Jason Jansen as Tommy Kennedy interacting with an animatronic Powermaster Optimus Prime.
That mystery has finally been opened up, as Jason Jansen - or rather, Jason Jankowski, as Jason Jansen was his stage name - has got in touch with davidaschulz of the Digest my Brain blog and given a rare interview, shedding some light on the fifth season of Transformers Generation 1 - how he got into working on Transformers, what the experience was like, and even some on-set stories. Check out the full interview on Digest my Brain here. |

We'll kick off our 2013 gallery updates with a new toy of a character who is very dear to me - Grimlock! Fall of Cybertron Grimlock is another one of those toys who occupies a happy medium between lines, blending with Classics, Fall of Cybertron or even Prime with varying degrees of success, and beyond all that, he's just plain awesome. He's tall in robot mode and imposing in dinosaur mode, with a gimmick that makes sense for the character and that does not get in the way of the rest of the toy's operation. Excellent poseability in robot mode is the icing on the cake. Some fans were disappointed that the original Classics Grimlock was, in their eyes, not a worthy update to Grimlock, well, thanks to Fall of Cybertron we now have a Grimlock who is a lot closer to the Generation 1 original, and nice and big to go with it.
What we have for you here is a nice extensive gallery showcasing Grimlock's dinosaur and robot modes, along with comparisons with previous Grimlocks and a selection of images showing how Grimlock fits in with other Fall of Cybertron toys, with other Classics series characters, and with Transformers Prime characters too, given that this version of Grimlock is presently playing a leading role in the Transformers Prime continuity "Rage of the Dinobots" comic. All in all, Fall of Cybertron Grimlock is a toy that I cannot recommend enough. He's not flawless, but he is the best non-masterpiece version of Grimlock that we have had. The fact he can fit in with most collection displays is a true bonus. Open the link below to check out the gallery: Fall of Cybertron Grimlock Gallery |

Our sponsors TFSource have sent us some finished product pictures of the Headrobots Drone kit. Drone is a conversion kit for Hunt for the Decepticons Tomahawk, to convert him into a Classics style version of the Generation 1 Wrecker, Whirl. These pictures show the finished kits in all their glory, along with a couple of repeats of earlier images to give you an idea of how this unlicensed kit looks when installed on the figure.
TFSource reports that the set is due to start shipping out next week as well, so get those spare Tomahawks ready if you are investing in this kit. The preorder page on TFSource can be viewed here. |

Following up on our pics of Platinum Edition Energon Optimus Prime and thanks to Planet Iacon via ACToys, we now have some gorgeous in hand pictures of the upcoming Year of the Snake Platinum Edition Omega Supreme figure. This remold of the Energon Omega Supreme figure features a new head and new claw arm and is expected to be released late this month. So far, this figure is looking gorgeous and should represent well in either a Classics figure display or a War for Cybertron display.

ACTOYS.net member sweet13524 has uploaded in-hand photos of the upcoming MP-16 Frenzy & Buzzsaw set.
As is evident from the photos, MP-16 comes in the standard black Takara Tomy Masterpiece box. Although we've seen the various accessories that are included with this set, including pile drivers and weapons for Frenzy, photos of the instructions reveal some details about the interaction between these cassette figures and the also soon-to-be-released MP-13 Masterpiece Soundwave. Notably, Masterpiece Soundwave appears to have storage compartments for Frenzy's weapons, and he can mount the pile drivers on his arm as a double-barreled cannon. Check out all the photos after the jump! |

A poster on ACToys has shared some images of the cross-sells on the bottom of the Beast Hunters Bulkhead and Smokescreen packaging which we saw yesterday. Alongside those two figures and Ripclaw, we have a look at the mystery fourth figure in the assortment whom we can confirm as a new, Deluxe class, version of Starscream! Beast Hunters Starscream like most of the rest of the returning characters features an armored, spikey new design, and seems a bit more squat than the usual tall, slender depiction of Prime Starscream (although it might be the photo angle). Starscream comes with what looks like a capture claw accessory, a long red weapon with silver claws at its tip.

As is traditional, with the arrival of the New Year we have taken a moment to look back on the last year and gather some thoughts on our favorite new toy releases of 2012. 2012 was a mixed bag of a year for Transformers, with highs including the excellent comics from IDW and the Fall of Cybertron game from High Moon Studios. Transformers Prime continued with its divisive second season and as it turns out the toy line was equally divisive from the moment it launched early in 2012.
Then along came a spider. And by that we mean Transformers Prime Airachnid, who receives this special (dis)honorable mention. On the other side, the Generations line returned to shelves featuring Transformers Fall of Cybertron based designs and while this too proved divisive - with many bewailing the measures taken to reduce costs, and other celebrating the fact that we got so many of these toys in the first place, not least our first true five member combiner in years, and our first update to Shockwave since the Shockblasts of the mid 2000s. The Collector-focused Masterpiece series also continued to impress, with the new Masterpiece Optimus Prime being released in the US to much collector acclaim and Takara-Tomy also continuing to expand the line with releases such as Red Alert and Sideswipe. With that little retrospective of the year said and done, join us as our staff reflect on their favorite Transformers toys of 2012. |
