I guess this is what you get when Disney takes over Star Wars. Blah.

Wow that's sad. Not only is it horrid 5 poa stuff but it's that ugly cartoony animation look instead of looking like normal figures. I'd like to see these designs normalized not stylized.

The hologram of Ben is interesting, but I don't get why the set is called "The Ghost"? Maybe because he was thought to have been dead?
As for the style of the figures, of course they're cartoony, they're based on a cartoon. The simple articulation isn't surprising either.

Fair enough, but it's still lame.

Keep in mind this is a set designed with kids in mind. The Black Series is for the adult collectors.

Yeah. To say that this dampens my enthusiasm for the show is an understatement. Expect something heavily sanitized and dumbed-down for a child audience: Mickey, Donald and Goofy in space, with blasters.

will watch the show to checkit but these figures are going to warm the pegs hard. 5 POA would dictate the 9.99 pricepoint like the mission series figures but considering the overpackaging thes will probably be like $14.99 a set.
I only want the villain guy anyways...money saved here... |

I'd just like to see these figures done in the non goofy cartoon style. I find it rather suspect that after the obliteration of everything eu the Jedi dude is suspiciously Kyle katarn-like.

If this show does surprise all of us and turn out to be watchable (many of us anticipated that The Clone Wars was going to be awful, but it was better than many of us had assumed it would be), I hope that Hasbro will offer some of these characters in the Black Series, or at least offer some sort of alternative besides these child-friendly 5 POA figures.
The cartoony look of the Clone Wars figures turned me off initially as well, but as I slowly developed a lukewarm appreciation for the show, the cartoonish CW figures slowly grew on me too. However, I would have preferred if Hasbro had offered more of those "realistic" figures of Clone Wars characters, or at least made the existing ones more widely available. I'm still kicking myself for not buying the Amazon-exclusive "realistic" Ahsoka before her prices skyrocketed. Last edited by Frank Richards; 09-04-2014 at 04:33 PM.. |

So you want figures based on the show, but you don't want them to look anything like the show. Yeah, that makes sense...

I appreciate Frank's post above. I'd forgotten how weak Clone Wars seemed in the beginning. (I didn't start watching it until almost the end of the second year.) This deserves a chance.
Resurrecting Obi-Wan (if only as a ghost) shows respect for continuity with the previous games and shows. That's encouraging! |

The series is set 5 years before A New Hope. Also, a few of the trailers show Obi-Wan communicating, via hologram, with the newly formed "Rebels".

And is that helmet on the kid's side the new Stormtrooper helmet design? |

That might be, I haven't been following a lot of Rebels news.

Weisman is no stranger to collaborations with Disney, as his Gargoyles series is probably the most mature and substantial animated TV series that Disney has ever been affiliated with. If anyone can manage to create something meaningful and significant while working for/with Disney, it's certainly Weisman. Also, his recent work on Young Justice proves that Weisman still has the potential to produce some great animated stories. So, overall, I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this show will be watchable Last edited by Frank Richards; 09-05-2014 at 04:19 PM.. |

Disney has made tons of shows that have serious situations and involved plots ever seen Gargoyles? The 5 poa is bad but it's where things are going now, the thing about making them in realistic style is ridiculous. They eventually made clone wars stuff in the realistic style but the actual toy line for the show was of course made to look like the cartoon. I haven't seen a Ashoka Tano figure in forever, it's mostly troopers. |
