The Thor line has been mediocre at best. The lack of a comic series figures is what, I think, screwed over the line. I'd LOVE Comic styled Warriors 3!

Heimdall, Tyr, Executioner. That line could of been the biggest success out of the movie lined figures...

They should of cut down on the 1000000000000's of Thors/Deluxe Thors and do a comic series line...or 2...or 3. Sometimes I wonder who's calling the shots and why...

I will say this the accessories the frost giant has for the hands would look sick painted with yellow highlights and given to magneto or storm or whoever, or could work with iceman.

I think the Thor line was something of a self-fulfilling prophecy for Hasbro - they didn't think it would be successful so no comic figures, load it up with Thor figures, and hope for the best. Then they put the most in-demand figures in later waves, making it nearly impossible to get them. I think they didn't expect success because with IM2 and Cap, you got figures that were outside the movie - in some cases, WAAY outside the movie (Bucky Cap, Agent, Kmart 3 pack). At some point, Hasbro might notice that the comic figures sell through pretty fast - while jungle Cap and Thor with a different painted armor doesn't sell as well. I wonder what the Avengers may show - but from NYCC, it seems that they are skimping in every possible way, so I'm not optimistic.

I don't know. I think we'd still be getting DC infinite heroes if only they had realized what we wanted most was rereleases of figures we had that glowed in the dark. Heck it worked for the mego 3.75 inch monsters line in 1980, it MUST be marketing gold.

The disc launching thor would be an easy pass. I am a troop builder so the frost giant would have been a nice addition.
I was really hoping for the ice claw as he looks more "regal" than the Laufey figure. My walmart had the deluxe frost giants on clearance for 4.99 so I grabbed 2. Then managed to find a invasion giant and wound up with Laufey in a trade so I am set. I also have to agree with previous statements. Horrible distribution, too many Thor molds and not enough supporting cast figures and no comic line. Still need to find king loki...

Yea, I thought I was going to add something to this conversation, but you all already covered it.
Too many Thors, no comic characters, and imbalanced waves all lead to seeing figures 1-6 on every shelf you come across. I've been tempted to buy all of the figures from one TRU or Walmart and return them to another, just to see if the first store orders the newer waves. Anyone have experience in that? It seems like random TRUs have been getting the newer waves, probably because of sales on the figures. They just don't move around here. |

Look up when at TRU. I only found Sif by spotting an unopened box of wave 4 on top of the Gondola 6 inches from the roof.

I agree with what's been said, new frost giant would be cool, but that Thor figure looks dumb. I think it's easy for hasbro to make 100 different Thors because it's the same headsculpt on 99% of them only thing they're redoing is a stupid missle launcher or slight paint tweak. Only way I'm getting more Thor figures is if they go on clearance, like 2-4$ then I'd be snagging a ton of frost giants, and a few more Thors. But for me my local Zellers and Walmart still have him full price, and only thing they have marked down is the thor helmet, shield and hammer.

I have suspicion that the newer waves 2 & 3 have only been showing up around her because someone was smart enough to buy a case then return it. I only recently picked up the helmeted version of Thor just to "complete" the set. I figured a non helmeted version and a Loki would be out with the Avengers line so this line is done for me.
This is what really gets my goat too. Load wave 1 with 5 Thor figures then repaint the same ones and put them in future waves. At least with Cap you can justify jungle and desert camo. How do you explain 5 different Thor molds with only a glow in the dark effect? There should have only been 3 Thor's tops. Helmet, non-helmet and Earth attire and the last one is only because I am a customizer and a blank figure would be a good base for anything. I can't say the line is a fail, I did get almost all of the main figures but it was a headache doing so.

The best part is that Family Dollar carries the second best 3.75" Thor figure made to date (second to the SDCC exclusive), so fuck this line.

Around me, at least, it started off so well. Sure the casepacks were garbage, but stores only ordered one or two cases at a time. I thought, this is going to be great. Low supply + Medium to low demand= being able to find all of the cool later figures pretty easily.
Then the movie did well, and stores bought 60000 cases of wave one in order to have a peg-rotting contest against the IM2 figures. |
