I couldn't believe that Marvel is charging $49.99 for the Axis graphic novel. There are no tie-in's included, it's just the 9 issue regular series.
I can understand Marvel would be putting a higher price on a book like the recent Winter Soldier omnibus which is nearly 1000 pages in length. But I think charging $50 for a graphic novel like this is just ridiculous, especially when you consider that it's only about 200 pages long. Here's a picture of the book in case you haven't seen it: If I hadn't found the book cheaper through the B&N website and had a savings coupon to bring the cost down more I would have passed on this without a second thought. Thoughts?

A seller charges the highest price that the market will support. I find lately that I am priced out of almost everything on the collector market. I submit that easy credit has pushed the toy market into a bubble, much the way it pushed real estate and many other things into bubbles. But that's okay! Sooner or later, the credit will dry up, buyers at the margin will renege (refuse to participate) in large numbers, and the supply-demand relationship will be forced to drop to a new, lower price equilibrium. It's just the normal cyclical boom-bust dynamic. "Let the market speak."

If that's the actual SRP and not the BNN price, then yeah, I absolutely agree on it being overpriced.
SRP - Suggested retail price. Which with books is often right by the SKU/bar code. It's usually printed on the actual cover of the book itself. Actual retail price - what the store itself charges, which places like BNN slap a sticker usually over the bar code/SRP. If it's printed on the actual book, then yeah, that's what Marvel themselves are wanting places to charge for it. |
