I started following this forum back in October 2010, finally joined early March 2011. When I first joined, it was extremely insightful with tons of information on new products, release dates, etc.
But now? It's fluff. Speculation, wishlists, interactions with retail staff, Hasbro staff. Absolute cotton candy nonsense filler. I don't know, maybe because we're at a "down time" in production/ release dates, but some of these threads are flat-out nonsensical. I know I'm not alone in this sentiment.

I have to agree and disagree . But it's like you said. It's a down time. No real new release for another month or so. And plus if that's all this forum talked about was release date. They would get no one to this site. I'm sure the staff loves all the nonsense posting bc of the traffic it brings to the site.
Edit: All these "fluff" threads is what keeps me clicking refresh at work all day lol. Last edited by Do Boy; 08-19-2011 at 08:33 AM.. |

I think this forum kicks ass- we look out for each other (literally) and share info- when something ships, like from BBTS, we post about it.
Really, what more could you want? Once the wave is out and most of us have it, the forum would be dead silent without he goofy thread and speculation. Hell, that's half the fun! |

SDCC was just a month ago. There was a plethora of information released. But I feel you on a lot of the repetitive threads, especially the wish list threads. Don't get me wrong, I like to dream too, but it's a little ridiculous when new threads are constantly created for the exact same topic.

if you didnt look, it says "Latest Marvel Discussion"
we are discussing things, as collectors. Not every Forum Post has to be a freakin News article, or a Review. Hasbro just showed us tons at SDCC, so its a deadzone on news untill new products pop up wherever. In the meantime, we are talking and chatting about marvel toys. Showing off our collections, Where to get neat accessories for them, Our wishlists. If you want the News, read a Newspaper or look at the front page. Otherwise we are here to talk about our Hobby, and that involves Cotten Candy Nonsence Filler. and I'm getting sick at all the gripes about wishlist threads. Theres like, 5 of them, and they are ongoing. Theres not a new one every day, jeeze. If you dont like it, DONT POST IN IT. If your going to complain, theres other forums. Instead of creating another fluff thread just to complain

I mainly use this to talk to people who collect what I collect and also as a means to get stuff through good trades without having to give my left foot in the transaction. LOL.

I think part of the problem is that any *good* (aka news) threads are plucked out of here and put in the news section, which is stupid in my opinion.

I love this forum. I get a lot of good info and get to hear from a lot of fellow collectors and get to see their awesome collections.
I honestly don't notice these threads that seem to be annoying some people. That may be because I only get to browse this in work meetings that run a bit too long and I'd rather look like I'm working on my blackberry instead of enjoying Toyark, hehe, or on my down time at home. If I was constantly online at toyark I could definitely see how the lack of new news or repetitive threads would be a downer. Just pick and choose, go think of cooler ways to display your MU figs (or whatever else you collect) in between the down time and then show us all when you do!

This is by far my favorite toy site, and I've been here a long time. I come here regularly throughout the day. I don't mind the "filler" threads at all. If I'm not interested in one, I just don't open it.

Why even make this thread when you could have asked what people would like to see made in MU wave 57?
Seriously, I agree with what you are saying and thats why im like a broken record everytime I see a thread that doesnt need to be created. At the same time, this is my favorite forum because of the quality of people that ive dealt with on here and keep in contact with. I will say that ive noticed newer or less active members that have nothing positive or anything of quality to post lately since SDCC and the Sonicron giveaway so I hope that this site doesnt get oversaturated with forum members out for themselves and like I said, nothing positive to contribute. It could be worse and be like hisstank here with a new thread of lets count them popping up every three secs.

Toyark has changed........a bit. But definitely not for the worst.
First and foremost, this thread is a prime example of the biggest change. Toyark is severely dominated by Marvel collectors. Not bad, and we definitely participate in other toy threads too on the site. But also the Marvel section has become the new General Thread section. This Thread SHOULD be in General Discussion. Instead people are putting their threads in the wrong places for whatever reason (so it shows up in the sidebar, or its because they declare themselves a Marvel/DC whatever collector and it goes in there anyway). And like everyone has said, a lot of speculation forums. But its mostly new people and that can be boiled down to laziness of not looking through the forum. Solution? We need a sticky for the speculation forum and maybe a sidebar for the General Discussion forum because people don't want to risk having their thread being lost and not read. Furthermore, the sidebar promotes only surface level reading. There are LOTS of great threads in this forum but no one may get to them because they just stick with whats on the right. Assumptions I know. LASTLY Toyark is a community of forums. We have Toyark, Hisstank, Thundercats and TFW2005. If one website encompassed all of these members, threads and ideas into a single website it would be too great for anyone NEW to get into. We break it up so that people can select and choose what site they want to dedicate their time to. Toyark is supposedly the well rounded one. In conclusion, the Toyark forum family is a community like I said above. The forums are USED for insight about our hobby but is PROPELLED by us. Not everyday can be a heavy news day. I don't know about much of you guys out there, but I don't know anyone in real life who collects toys. So even on slow news days, the fact that there is an outlet for a hobby of mine with people who share this passion is a big deal. And that IS the point of ToyArk. |

Damn skippy! Well said, Tarq...er..guy who's name i'm not gonna try to type after an twelve hour shift!
I try to hook up my fellow arkers and have them pass the karma along- that way, when I need that Nova fig or whatever, someone will remember my good deeds and do the same. That whole community thing. |

I'm not sure how making a thread to complain about other threads is really any different.

Do you not see the possible correlation here? This is summer. It's a lull in the news. You're not going to see news threads because there is no news to report. It will pick up again in the winter. That said, this is one of the best toy collector forums I've found. My old favorite, Sir Steve's Guide, unfortunately has died down a lot in the Marvel discussion. But this forum is way better than some where people treat collecting the same way they'd discuss politics. AKA, cutthroat. I LIKE the fact that there's fluff. I like that people make wishlist threads. I like that people post pictures of their collections and generally act like a bunch of man/women children fully aware of the fact that we're all collecting childrens toys. I also like that fact that there's far fewer "I wish they'd make X" posts here that ignore all the recently announced (or released) figures. Those always bugged me. But that's just me, I wanted to throw a pet peeve into the complaint thread. |
