Out of the 3.75 Marvel Universe figures released so far, which ones do you guys consider to be the rarest? I know there are obvious ones like the SDCC figures, but what else stands out among the sea of Iron Man peg warmers that are out there? I would personally be amazed to find the following in stores:
Blade The Comic 2 pack that accidentally included Deadpool I'd like to hear your opinions on figures that are rare online too, so let me know what you think. Last edited by DogFashionDisco; 04-06-2011 at 10:17 PM.. |

Wait, do you mean just stock MU? Or are you including the SDCC ones and such?

The only MU general release figures that I have never even seen at mass retail are:
-Light blue Bullseye -Iron Patriot variant w/Norman Osborn head -Gigantic Battles blue and yellow Giant Man -Ms. Marvel variant (Moonstone) -Warpath variant (blue and red) I don't count the dark colored Galactus since he was an online only release and is pretty readily available online. Everything else I have seen at least once at Target, Walmart, or Toys R Us (although regular non-variant Vision I only saw once at a Walmart two Decembers ago and of course I scooped him up). |

In terms of rare you would be crazy not to list the mail out and sdcc at tops, along with the box sets, after that there's 1-2 figures per wave that are harder to find then others, less odds/case. But for some joe blow he could have 10 pegwarmers of something I'm dieing to find, rareity is all about location, selection, and your needs, whats rare to me may not be rare to you, and vise versa. To me bullseye, blade, moon night, silver surfer, warpath, vision, kitty pryde, mary jane, skrulls, etc there's a lot of the older waves I'm trying to find and piece together, let alone the new ones that come and go, I have 1-2 local retailers ie walmart that stock them but it's like 1 case and unless I'm there when they put them out I miss them all, or find 2/3 of a wave. When I have $$ I am seriously considering preordering the 2 new waves along with the avengers and x-force box sets, and still waiting to find out more about that large xmen edition box set.

In my experience, the rarest figures from the MU line are the following:
Any and all except for Iron Man, Spider Man, and Wolverine. Just single packs tho, two packs seem to be doing just fine except for the fact nobody is buying them. |

I think to make a figure really rare it has to be one that was at least available at one time in general retail so anyone had a chance at it{thus eliminating all mail in type figures}. So after all these revision cases Ive seen all the variants except the phasing Vision{had to get him online}. I even found the orig. Archangel and Sunfire yesterday. So my vote has to be the original Vision. Even though his variant has been difficult to get in stores, people have done so and have ordered him via online stores. So Vision has to be the rarest with a nod also to the deathmask Archangel and the XForce Warpath.

Funny about the Norman Osborn head version of Iron Patriot is rare, I've got like five of those at Target.

Oheck, might as well toss these ones in the bucket too..Marvel Sunfire, Guardian, any "packaging" variants, MU factory error figs and....reg. Vision lol. Yea sure there's are handful of figs I haven't seen in the wild, but I'd call them uncommon. Not rare, cause no one really knows where these things are being distributed...

I was checking out the Iron Patriot last night on ebay and the unmasked versions are going for near $40 each.

I've seen every one in stores at least once except:
-Jean Grey -Vision (either) -Warpath (X-Force) -Black Widow I'm glad the revision cases are hitting so I can get Jean and Black Widow. I need a regular Vision which doesn't seem to be in the reivision. No regVision revision. I remember when they first hit. My WM had 9. |

Ebay is a joke.
I felt the same way, and eventually I did find Black Widow and Jean Grey. I even passed on buying an extra Black Widow because I didn't have the cash. At least collectors finally have a chance to find the stuff that those Ebay vultures are trying to sell to us. |

You hit a sensitive nerve there buddy...Personally, I'd rather go out of my way (and believe me I do) to hunt for whatever line of toys im in to and make sure (KEYWORDS make sure) that what im spending my hard earned money on is..One: NOT in shoddy condition..Two: buying from retail will possibly save me cash and heck, maybe theres more I see that im interested in..Three: Not worrying if Im getting scammed, cause hell I don't know BillyBob in South Carolina from the gum on the bottom of my shoe..Finally: I've been collecting sports memorabilia/action figures for well over 25 years, and having the knowledge of where, why and what im looking at personally is gold to me. Not a fail, as you put it. But hey, thats my opinion.

Hey guys, this thread got me to join up- I know the pain of noot finding that certain figure (I paid $25 for my Thanos at Christmas- found him a week later at Traget!).
So...my target has a ton of the revision waves- I just picked up a second Archangel today for trade- anyone got an extra Iron Fist (loose is fine) or classic Ms. Marvel? They also has the red and blue Warpath, Green, Grey and red Hulks, thing variant, Ronin Variant and basic Iron Patriot and have had the clear Vision (the first one I bought! SO happy!) but stupidly did not buy the second one (I was buying three other figs that day already). |

Just because something is rare doesn't make it ok to take advantage of fans. If you want to conduct an honest auction on ebay, than start it low and let the fans decide what it is worth by submitting a bid. I honestly didn't expect anyone to be so defensive to my comment (I occasionally buy on ebay) but I get the feeling that you would of made such an obviously defensive comment anyway. Very interesting.....

What is interesting is that people want the RARE figure and DO NOT want to pay. On top of that, come to the boards and complain. They complain about prices, scalpers, etc... That is A TOTAL JOKE. If you do not want to pay MOVE ON. Do not complain and whine. That is the whole point of my post.

Nice little battle you 2 have going on. IMO ebay can be both a blessing and a curse, it's great for someone like myself living on a small island, 100,000+ppl, not much in terms of retail stores, and I don't have a car so traveling is limited. I haven't used ebay in years since I collected hockey cards, but since I got back into toys I find myself always watching ebay, because you can buy loose figures cheap, fodder lots for accessories and parts, and bulk lots for cheaper then retail loose or moc.
As far as rare, anything produced over time that remains in it's original condition is typically going to appreciate in value, due to the factors of how many were made, the cost of original investment and the scarcity/desire for someone to have it in their collection. Toys now a days, especially MU have their own rareness' factor from the moment they go on preorder, because out of the 5 released 1-2 figures will cost your more to buy then the rest, typically sell out, scalpers pick up on this, go to their local walmarts and buy 10 thor figures because they're "rare" puts them up on ebay for double or tripple the initial investment, which is 2-300 % profit for the seller, a hard hit to swallow to the wallet of the collector, and a hit to heart for the avid hunter who walks in the door 20 mins the scalper leaves with 3 bags full of toys. Leaving pegs empty with a dirty feeling under the MU banner, hah. I personally don't like the idea of scalping, I can understand buying a lot of the same figure for team building purposes, or buying 2 so you can open 1 and keep MOC. When you buy every figure on a shelf, peg just to jack up in price and make $$, and don't even like or collect toys yourself, that's when it pisses me off. I seen 2 blue Iron monger figures for cheap at my local winners, I still may pick them up, but it would be for customizing or trading only. Ebay however can be fantastic for ex: someone trying to find a stealth Iron Man marvel legends variant 1st wave.. that cost the seller $20 initially to buy from the store, but he's selling it for $150, because it's no longer sold, made and is the variant edition, ... more "rare" and the price I'll be it steep, is justifyable. And love it or hate it ebay ain't going anywhere either are scalpers, if there's a toy that you've given up finding in retail stores around you, online stores are sold out, ebay is often times the last resort, but you don't have to rush, put the item in your wanted items and you'll recieve alerts for listings, you can wait to find someone with a certain seller rating, location, price or even buy it now feature. I finally got my paypal acct set up and will be buying some ebay merch soon enough. Last edited by behindthemask; 04-08-2011 at 11:40 PM.. |
