Ok, instead of starting a new thread every time I want to post a new WIP, I'm going to try to keep it all to one ongoing and just edit this first post each time.
Cracked a new movie Avengers torso for the arms and figured some people might like to see how the new hips work. They are the one redeeming part of that line, but still have some friction to work out. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...h/DSCF5665.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...h/DSCF5666.jpg I seem to be obsessed with giving Iceman add on armor/ice effects. Here's the next installment of my Secret Warriors, YoYo aka Slingshot. Ordered the lower arms in silver on ebay. I'm taking them from a build a droid. Ares so far... Still need to get an extra set of Warpath style lower legs. The purple things next to him are going to be his shin guards. They're cut from a Nemesis Enforcer.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...s/AresWIP3.jpg __________________________________________________ __________________________________________________ _________________________________ UPDATE! Ares now has both wrist swivel and hinge thanks to the Build n Brawl figures! (have to redo some sculpting on the wrists) His son Alex (aka Phobos) is coming along. Carved up the thighs, and ribs. Cut off the wrists and neck. Replaced the lower legs. So far minor sculpting. Last edited by jimsloth; 04-05-2012 at 09:05 PM.. |

Thanks! need to take a newer picture. I added both wrist swivel and hinges. Debating on the thighs right now. I have Absorbing man thighs that might look more like the Marvel Legends version, but they're also a bit wider.

Updated picture now up. Which sword should I go with for Grasscutter? I'm thinking the top one.

forgot about this thread. Here's a little more work done on Groot
Here's the Northstar I started a couple days ago. Still need to figure out if I'm going to mod the belt to look like his newest costume, and paint the star on his side. |

Package came, more work done:
and since the plastic is soft enough, his mouth can open. When I'm done I'll put a tiny clear toothpick to prop it open for an I AM GROOT pic. |

So after picking up a Captain America 3 pack on clearance for $2.50 I decided to experiment and use some of those movie hips I hate so much. Here's what I came up with:

Other projects...
Giving the skinny hero torso some hips to make it more normal. And giving the hydra soldier a more classic look |

I was using the new Starwars Darth Vader (electricution version) for parts, so I figured I'd go ahead and cut the head open. This is what his skull looks like:

So Banshee just needs his cape/wing flap things and some paint touch ups. Sam is wearing a combo of the original New Mutants outfit paint scheme with more of a movie vibe in the mold details. I figure he often has shoulder pads and other such body armor, so it was a good fit.

Those all look great, as always! I'm back to my Secret Warriors projects now- with your advice, I'm making Phobos- though I think I'll be going with a Microman Sister (breasts sanded off) for the super-articulation.
That Banshee is just perfect- what head is that from?!?! That vader skull looks like it could be the perfect base for sculpting a Deathlock head- you should give it a shot!

So PLEASE post pics of that Microman Sister body next to some Marvel Universe fig for scale. I may just have to hunt that down for my child Loki project.
You are absolutely right about Deathlock. Only question becomes do I sculpt the other half the head, or try to cut two apart and glue them together. As for Banshee, he was a GI Joe Duke from one of the MASS Device multi-packs. On the boards most people refer to him as O-face Duke (Thank you Office Space). I sculpted the hair based on the Captain Marvel fig. I was trying to figure out how to mold it and then repro just the hair and splice it on, but ended up free handing it. Oh, and I added boots and negabands (from Namor) to my Captain Marvel |

Couple more projects (I really need to finish some of these before starting more)
Need to find different lower arms. I'd love some from Ultimate Ironman but am unwilling to pay the premium for a rare figure just to tear him apart. If anyone has a pair Please PM me. Betsy here is just an initial shrinking from a fathom toy. I'm trying to decide whether or not to do it again slightly smaller. If I keep this one there are a couple air bubbles I would patch before remolding and casting. |

OKay, I missed this update for a month or so but MAN, THAT CAST FATHOM HEAD IS AWESOME!
Can I prahaps buy one from you? I think you're useing that for the wrong gal-That looks like a perfect head for Mantis! I cant believe you're making NIMROD there! How did you make that head? It's killer! I'll get some pics of that Microman sister up for you- I just moved and am still setting up my customs and art bench and such so I need to dig her up. Smalljoes.com has her on sale for $15 and it's a steal- even if you end up useing her for something like Katie Power. I had intended to use the Microman as a Rigillian body after i got a great head from Vortious (he made it for the android AI from the new Green Lantern CG cartoon, but it works great as a Rigillian!). Loving that Toybiz Mojo repaint- looks fantastic! I just passed on that fig today- he's perfect scale for MU but I kinda hate the character, so... You should make a Spiral! The helmet from the Super Hero Squad toy can be cut off, leaving a great base to detail the helmet and put it on a 3.75" head...

When I make copies, I'll make one for you. Need to get some more mold material first. The nimrod head was actually not that hard. Sculpted the nose and mohawk with apoxie, cut a little out of the mouth and triangles under the eyes with my exacto knife, and the biggest part, sculpted shoulderpad things (which may still get bigger). I kept moving the arms and head while the stuff was soft so it wouldn't freeze the joints or stick to the wrong parts.
The Microman sister looks like it must have sold out at Smalljoes. I'll have to keep my eyes out for her. Looking on google Uni's gloves would work for Nimrod too. Last edited by jimsloth; 11-17-2012 at 06:28 AM.. |

Ok, just for trying to figure out what to concentrate on next, I went through my marvel drawer of WIPs and pulled out the ones I was either furthest along or most exited about. I snapped off pics and am letting posts sway where I go next. Older projects are in on this too. This is going to be a pic heavy post.

yup. I just cut off some tentacles from constrictor for him. I'm not sure if I like the head and still haven't figured out the hair.
Need to get some more pics of my Ares taken. He's looking better every day. Unfortunately I don't think I'm going to get around to reducing his knee guards until after Christmas. Work is just too busy. |

Just getting back into things after a bit of a break. The Destroyer from Thor bugged me by missing out on shoulder joints, so I'm going to fix that with discs from Thundercats Liono:
Also, I hate the Marvel Movie hips, so while the torso was apart I decided to fix them. Drilled a new hole, cut the discs thinner by about half, and carved a bit out of the pegs. Now the legs can walk fluidly. |

So I had to add the original shoulder socket discs because the liono ones were too small
I also drilled a hole through both discs and almost all the way to the pin hole, then added a sawed off nail for stability. Too many times I've had joints in customs break because I'm trying to piece them together. The arms would have been wobbly if I stopped here, so I added green stuff to snug up the joints. Had some extra mixed up when I was done, so I also filled the pin holes. |
