They should continue MU and add ML while cancelling the useless Spider-Man line.

MU will be sticking around for awhile. It's a money maker whereas Marvel Legends previously wasn't.
So unless there's a complete turnaround on sales since ML has been off shelves, I don't expect it to out perform MU. |

I doubt MU is going anywhere either, and I really doubt that ML coming back will have that much of an impact on MU sales. Sure some collectors prefer the 6" size class and others prefer the 3.75" class. Personally, I think 6" figures are great for the larger Marvel characters like Juggernaut, Apocalypse, Sasquatch, Hulk, Abomination, Wendigo, etc. Then they can still use 3.75" for the more normal-sized characters.
Getting back on topic, we still have time before SDCC for Hasbro to release info on the Thor figure, should they choose to do so. They may even decide to make it a reveal at the Con itself. I guess we'll all find out soon enough.

now that I think about it, there is a good chance that Marvel Universe could get Highjacked next year by the Avengers.
Think about it GIJoe Modern Age was highjacked and turned into GIJoe movie Transformers stopped all their awesome universe and classics stuff to make the first movie stuff and again with the second film, and even the third The Star Wars toylines have taken a backseat to their respected movie toy lines. I can legitimately see Hasbro freezing Marvel Universe, putting it on hiatus, and using its platform for the Avengers toys. With this, its kind of 50/50 good or bad On one hand, I can see TONS of Figures, as the GIJoe movie line had Tons of figures. On the other hand, a good half of them would be movie figures. In this scenario, so long as we are getting a large cluster of newish Characters, in their comic appearances, I would be happy. The Only huge downside to it is lack of actual none avengers characters being made, like some cosmic marvel or the x-men. unless Hasbro sticks them in comic packs As for Spider-man, I can guarendamntee you that Hasbro will turn their current Spiderman line into Amazing Spiderman for that film. This is all hypothetical

I don't see that happening. Right now there's the main MU line, the Thor line, the Cap line and the Spider-Man line all existing together. No reason to think they won't be able to support an MU line, an Avengers line, a Spidey line and (possibly) a Wolverine movie line next summer.

The Good news is that a new "The Wolverine" Line would be during the winter, after all the summer toy lines so it would actually be better financially for the company.

The difference is that unlike your other examples, MU has continued non-stop since its debut, running right alongside the following movie lines: XMO:W, IM2, Thor and Captain America.

while that is true, an Avengers movie toyline is different, cause it takes up nearly a half of Marvel, if not more. Cap, Thor, or Ironman alone would only take up a small percentage of the whole MU. Avengers have had their seeds in everything. its about 50% Avengers, 25% X-Men, 10% Fantastic Four, 10% Spider-man, and 5% misc. give or take

Regardless, I sincerely doubt that Hasbro will go much further past the core cast of the movie for Avengers toys (even with Comic variants). Depending on how successful the line is, they may expand it further and delve deeper into the ranks. Most likely though, they will hit the major players and probably use EMH as a template to flesh out the rest of the line.

whoa whoa whoa... there's a new Wolverine and Ghostrider movie coming out?
I hope Ghostrider is a reboot because that Nick Cage movie was on par with DareDevil,.. maybe even Halle Catwoman or Jen Elecktra bad.

MU will stick around. It's the dedicated comic line.
Avengers will get its own toyline with probably filler from IM2 holdovers, Cap, and Thor. Those 3 lines will finally be offshelves and consolidated into the avengers line. Wolverine may get his own line, that'll spring board into a small X-Men line too. So overall, we'll have MU for awhile, with various other lines that help bolster MU. Remember this. Any movie line that has comic series can be filtered back into MU again later for boxsets, comic packs, and other single carded figures. So really the side lines help bolster the mold usage within MU itself. So yes, it's staying as a way to continually reuse molds while movie-lines have limited shelf life. The line that may get the axe is the spidey line, as it'll be canceled and then changed to amazing spider-man, and then possibly transition right back for package refreshing. So fret not. It's sticking around. Ghost Rider I hope gets a brief movie line in the new scale. That'd be nice to round out some of the Marvel occult figures in comic series. And yeah, neither Ghost Rider nor Wolverine are really reboots. Though in both cases they may not acknowledge the previous movies except in passing. Wolverine obviously because he has amnesia now anyway so it'd seem odd that he'd remember the first movie at all, and ghost rider because they want to maintain a more self-contained story but not worry about his origin again. Personally, I really enjoyed Ghost Rider as a deconstruction of the western genre using a modern day spin and the occult. Sure I want a sequel to be different though, we don't need the same notion done over and over. The initial western angle was good for the origin and is done. Now let's move onto something more action oriented instead of a thinking man's movie. Last edited by Snowflakian; 07-14-2011 at 01:32 PM.. |

Yeah, I'm not the biggest fan of Nicholas Cage but I enjoyed Ghost Rider.
With the Avengers toyline, it might make sense to make MU X-men centric for a few waves - most of the mainstream figures yet to receive a figure are X-men related.

If the low levels of retail orders for the Thor and Captain America lines (compared to Iron Man 2) are any indication, I don't think the Avengers line is going to be nearly as big as some people are suspecting it will be. At this point I'm betting on something about the same volume as the Captain America line.

Its expected that the Silver Samurai and Mariko.
