Hey everyone,
MU has always been hard to find at any of my local stores (TRU, Target or Walmart) but lately I can't seem to find ANYTHING new or even stock at all. Target seems to be the best at getting anything, but they get such low stock unless I hunt them down daily I never find anything. Walmart doesn't seem to get anything new, and it it does I'm late because I haven't found anything recent. TRU only seems to have comic packs. Are you guys just ordering online? |

What I tend to do is, when I know new product is "supposedly" hitting the shelves, I give it about a month and if I don't see hide nor hair of it, I order it online. That way, if it's wave that has good distribution, I'll end up finding it (I did this with the new comic book packs and, amazingly enough, the Captain America wave 2 figures), but if it's a poorly distributed wave I'm assured the figures eventually, albeit at a slightly higher cost (such as the waves with Thanos and Apocalypse.)

Check CVS, Walgreens, other pharmacy and grocery stores. They might charge 2-3 bucks more but you might be able to find something there if noone else in the area has thought to check there.

Thanks.
Good idea on the CVS and the like. I was actually at one today getting some items but nothing there. |

I'm lame, I use BBTS and pre-order for the single figures. For comic packs, which have been few and far between after the Secret Wars, I tell my family for easy b-day presents. (and I buy classic X-men packs for my brother). Never had an issue with comic packs or giant figures. The extra monies is reasonable for me, but that's because it's the only line I collect. I don't know how reasonable $2-5 extra per figure is for someone who collects more than just Marvel.
(Well, technically I collect Futurama, but that's like, 2 figures a year.) |

I'm fortunate enough to live in a very metropolitan area where there's stores on top of stores, so I'm usually able to find what I need in stores. I have no problem buying online as long as the price (shipping included) isn't too far beyond stores.
..in my area, Target seems to be the worst when it comes to MU stock. I think they stock one case every other month. So two days after they stock that case they're right back to having three Ironman figs and six Spidy vs. Sentry comic packs, and nothing else.

I have to order all my figs either on ebay or BBTS because I live in Canada. With ebay I ONLY deal with one or two sellers all the time because imo they're THE BEST. BBTS is awesome because you can preorder a whole wave or just singles. If your a completist, like me, the variants are easier and more expensive on ebay - patience is key.

Man all I do is stare online knowing I will not find most of the good $%^&* for MANY MONTHS TO COME.
I usually find Gladiator, 1st Appearance Wolverine on shelves. Signs that NEW FIGURES WERE THERE BUT SOLD OUT BEFORE I GOT THERE. Thus, I stare at images of said pics online, trying to convince myself that yes, they truly exist, yet their absence on the pegs says otherwise...

I had a friend that worked at TRU back when. He would ask me what I wanted really bad and then when he was stocking them, he'd throw 1 of each in the storage shelf above behind the "banners". I'd be in that day and scoop out my christmas-like surprise. If someone else would have done this when I went looking that morning.. I'd be mad though.. which is why I stopped doing it in the end. However, it's the only way I got some of the early rare stuff, including the non-variant tru legends 2-packs. But I'm posting this now because I don't think this was the only case of this happening by any means.. so when you go to TRU, look up through the holes to see if anything is on that top shelf. Highly doubtful there is very often, but when there is, lift the banner/door to dig it out and see what you may find! Never know!
P.S. Sorry if I just ousted someone else's secret TRU trick. :P Last edited by quinten182; 06-29-2011 at 06:46 AM.. |

All you have to do is ask an employee at the store. They will gladly tell you when trucks arrive.

The stores around me have been consistently bad at getting new product for more than a year, so I've almost entirely switched to online shopping. Gas is still too expensive to drive around when 99% of the time I don't find anything.

I've seen numerous posts where retail can't keep up with new stuff coming in because they have so much back orders of the old stuff. Iron man 2, spiderman and thor line is a good example of this. If new stuff does get released, you have to beat the scalpers to it and wait for the store to open to get that jump on it. I've talked to retail employees here in CA and they told me the good stuff doesn't even make it onto the pegs. As for most arkers, I believe we all have daytime jobs that make it very difficult to check out retail spots right when they open. I'm starting to resort to online purchases too. Long have been the days of hunting where it usually ends with a hunting trip, "FAIL." I've resorted to hunting online which is fine by me now when factoring in wasted trips and gas. There is some excitement in the hunt when you come home and find a nice present for yourself waiting in the mail.

I definitely agree. Your figures coming in a box and waiting for you when you get home can be just as exciting. I came home last night after 11 hours at work and seen a box that contained the Avengers and X-Force packs I posted pics of.. now THAT made my night!

I gotta say the I have been extremely lucky. I have found more figures and variants by just strolling into the figure section in any given store (walmart, target, etc.). I have not bought any of my figures from an online store, and for the most part I have a pretty substantial collection. Very nearly all of the comic styled figures (minus the last set of IM2 comic series.)
I live in Michigan and I know there are a ton of collectors who frequent all of the stores in my area, but I've still been able to find everything that I want. |
