I am just curious, how many of you out there really care, want or have a priority on New Gods figures?
The reason I ask is nearly every wave has a New Gods figure and do we really want them? Do we really want them right now? Would we rather see others figures/teams made first? |

I think your point is valid because, although they are a different style, there is already a New Gods line out, but the New Gods have been very integral recently and as Kirby created characters they sell themselves.
Mister Miracle is one of my favorite characters, and I constantly debate on telling Booster Gold he has to wait, because I want to buy the MM sitting at my local Fred's(I've mentioned many times before if I start collecting these I start with Booster). I figure if a young guy like me likes them as much as I do, there are plenty of other dudes in my town ready to go after them. I don't like Forager though. |

See I think of Mister Miracle and Big Barda (though her figure is pint sized Barda) as JLA. Plus, in my opinion they were more earth bound and thus more integrated into the regular DC Universe. Whereas the rest, Darkseid excluded of course come around once a year maybe, every few years they have a mini-series or failed series.
Granted in the last few years with the Crisis they have been around, at least so the could die. But how many people are out there saying....Golly I hope they make a Mantis figure.... or I dream of Dessad. And as for Forager ...what is the obsession with him we now have him in JLU and DCUC. I am sure there is a New Gods multipack not far in our future in the Infinite hero’s line. What is his significance? All I am saying, is how about a Hush.. Prometheus.. maybe someone really significant Martian Manhunter, Gordon, Elongated Man, Zatanna. Or if you want a team.... the Legion. (yeah a Karate Kid figure would be great) Sometimes they start these lines and say you know while the line is hot lets get the more esoteric characters in and they do that till the line doesn't have to juice to make the characters that are more mainline favorites. |

I'm no big fan of the New Gods myself, but I do think there is always a struggle when it comes to character selection for any given line.
On the one hand, you have some characters that almost never get toys because they aren't as well known or popular outside of the fanbase (and in some cases, not even within the fandom). One example is Gentlemen Ghost, who up until this year I assumed would never get a figure of his own, much less 3 different ones in 3 different lines. But I can certainly understand if there are other fans who wonder why his slot couldn't be used for a more mainstream character, such as Hush. Now on the other hand, we have the crowd that is tired of seeing the same group of characters constantly getting new figures, sometimes multiples with only outfit/hair changes separating them. Obviously, when it comes to DC toys, the two main offenders are Batman and Superman. But those are also tentpole characters and serve to support the entire line. Sales of those figures allow for the release of those lesser known characters and fan favorites. And that's not even counting the imput the toy companies get from the licensees. They may want to push certain characters over others themselves. All in all, Mattel, et. al. have to tread that fine line. Given the number of lines they tread, you can't fault them for falling to one side or the other from time to time. At least they get back up and try again.

You trebleshot I agree with you about the line... It is just so odd that New Gods keep ending up over that line. Expecailly since the have now reagular venue of their own and anytime they get one it gets cancelled.
While other characters which have no personal venue per se do have fan support and desire for them to be seen. All in all your right, but when we will be 11 waves in and still no Martian Manhunter but we have a Forager, Light Wave, and as cool as he is, Kalibak you have to ask questions. I mean if they wanted an obscure team go with Freedom Fighters, or a little more mainstream Outsiders. |

I really like them due to nostalgic Jack Kirby comics and the whole Cosmic Odyssey run. I go for the Kirby-esque versions more than the Super Powers stuff. There's an audience for them. Hope they make an updated Darkseid soon.

I did not start reading DC comics until recently and really love the looks of a lot of the DCUC figures. As someone who is not super familiar with anyone beyond Supes and the Bat I find I am looking more at the aesthetic and then the character as to who I collect. Hence one of the first three I purchased was Dr. Impossible.
