And if my backing out of a dead end argument that's going nowhere makes you feel like you "win?" Be my guest. If you wanna feel like you're the bigger man, then you're the bigger man. Whatever makes you feel good about yourself. Me, I agree that we disagree. Quote:
Though the thread title is generic enough that it works for talking about it in general.

You're right. That comment was out of line. I deeply appologize.

If you're serious then I accept the apology and appreciate it. I hope we can get back to the discussion at hand?

You were absolutely right. That was out of line. Insults are usually beneath me. I've spent the last few days very sick, and I'm in a state where I find everything to be annoying. It's no excuse, but you deserve to know where I'm coming from on that. As for the discussion, I think it's best that we agree to disagree, because I can't see us doing more than a dance that's going nowhere. Or, at the very least, I've proven I'm not in the right mind to handle it well, currently.

And I'll admit, you've given me more pause about joining the club than I already had. (Although that one comment someone made about the likelyhood that it would become the Superfriends Fanclub is what stopped me dead to rights, lol).

Well I'm the kind of guy who doesn't do a whole load of purchasing off the internet. If I do, it's usually for one figure off ebay, not an online store. So it's really the fact that me, and many others, aren't given a choice but to sign up and get figures off their site instead of retail. That's why I was so against it (Plus I hate the 20$+ price tag). But once again, the whole "All or Nothing" thing has me VERY conflicted now.
And I have absolutely horrible luck finding the things that I really want, in person. Especially popular DCUC figures. I never saw Nightwing, Didn't get him until the reissue. I've never seen a Sinestro Corps Sinestro, except rare times one shows up on ebay, and gets bid way out of my range. Never saw a Sinestro Batman in the wild. Only saw Raven once. The only Harley Quinn I saw was the one I own. And some of the most recent transformers, I've never found, and wouldn't have them had I not preordered (Like RtS Jazz and Lugnut, Generations Wheeljack, Thundercracker, and Warpath) So I've taken to preordering the ones I feel I need and cant do without, from BigBadToyStore. (Pretty confidant I'll never find a Stargirl, or any of wave 20 out there) And now I've taken to preordering most things, like both GLC waves, and the GL Movie Masters from them. To me in the long run, the club subscription from Matty isn't much different than what I've been doing. When it cost $15 to fill my tank, I used to spend nights driving around from walmart to walmart searching for toys that I wanted. Did that usually once a week, sometimes two or three times if I was looking for something really rare (Or had a bad night at work). When I did that, it was really rarely that I actually bought something online, like you. And then, usually only something that wasn't already in stores, like Beast Wars Neo, or Car Robots, or something along those lines. Now, it costs $50 to fill my tank, and my income is often only $100 a week. So for me at least, it's a lot cheaper in the long run to buy online. Even if the toy is more than retail. So, combined with the increasing difficulty to find the rare guys, plus travel... I just got a lot more comfortable letting BBTS bring them to me. So... I can understand not being big on online shopping. I used to be that way, too. But even now I'm getting that antsy conflicted feeling that I get with wondering if I should preorder some transformers. Do I join the club and be at ease about getting the toys I want (And worry that I can't cover them every month), or do I pass on the vague chance that I *might* me able to get in and get atrocitus for the few minutes he'll be available? Even worse if he becomes available during the random 12 hours a day my net is usually down? But basically, like I said... for me personally the subscription isn't that much different than what I've been doing, pretty much since the Kilowog wave. I find it steep, yeah. And the "locking in" thing I'm uncomfortable with, because when push comes to shove and I don't think I can cover it, I can always cancel a BBTS preorder. If I have a couple bad months, this can literally kill me. Even worse for figures I wouldn't really want in the first place, like Starman. But the Botcon toys are a $500 commitment, and that's usually in two huge chunks, while these are dulled out in $15-30 nuggets each month. So, there's that. And at this point, I'm just rambling, so I'll call it a night. >_<

But there's some very good points made, such as C&C being taken out and we're still paying more than retail. If Mattel can't lower the prices, then make the figures better with a vast amount of accessories, like MOTUC. Something they could do for the accessories is have little nods to certain comics, for example, there's a 25th Anniversary GI Joe Cobra Commander figure that comes with a cylinder/cone thing of radioactive crystals. That's a nod to a certain episode. So Mattel should take notes there. Also, EVERY figure should come with an interchangeable head. For Starman, have a maskless head. For Jay Garrick, have a young head. For Atrocitus, have a calm head? (Maybe not, he is the red lantern after all). But for future figures, each should have an interchangeable head. And if they can't think of one, just have a calm and angry head. God knows I'm sick of the Batman Legacy Batman looking pissed off all the time. All and all, I think this whole situation could be avoided with a "I don't want the figure of this month" option. If I signed up, I know I'm good for 3 months because I want Starman, Atrocitus, and Jay Garrick. But if, for what ever reason, Shaggy Man won the poll and he's the first large figure we get, I want the option to say "No thank you, I don't want to pay for this figure because I don't want it. So please don't send this figure to me." Just give us that option, and I'm sure most people would actually be okay with the subscription. I know I would find the subscription a lot more appealing than it is now. |

Though it's a good article (just read the entire thing), I really don't like the fact that the guy is basically saying "Stop complaining about characters you don't want and suck it up". At least that's the vibe I get from it. Because I think it's fair for people to be concerned about having to buy characters they don't care about because of the subscription.

And am I the ONLY person who thinks of having the option of saying "no" to the figure of that particular month is a good idea? I'm not saying have a replacement or anything, you simply don't pay and don't get a particular figure that you don't want. Wait until the next month, and see if you want that one, and so on. |

2 thing. 1. I shouldn't, or anyone else who usually doesn't sell their collectibles, shouldn't have to go through the hassle of selling figures. 2. If it's one of those characters that NO ONE wants, then they could be be a huge hassle to try to sell.

Personally, I'm not concerned about unwanted figures, I'll take whatever I may get. But I do think that Mattel should implement something akin to what M3T4L V1KING suggested. Though to be completely fair and not have Mattel lose money on the subs, etc., they should have like 1 or 2 "slots" (or something) that are given to the subscriber to use as a sort of "free pass" to opt out of a figure of their choosing during the period.

Heck, I'd say 3 or more also, but were talking about Mattel/MattyCollector here, so if something like this were to come into effect, it's guaranteed that they'd hand out just the one.

I dont have anything personal against the DCUC club, I just think its a shame that Mattel cant keep a line alive at retail. I mean I just paid 17 bucks for a Yellow Lantern Bats for a friend ... If that what the future holds for the revamped legends line then the toy shelves at brick and mortar stores are going to continue to shrink.

I'd like to throw in that I also love the concept of having a free pass to opt out of one or two figures.
It means more for someone who actually wants the figure.

Not looking too good for the DC club, though. One week in and the club barely has a 20% subscription rate. One week left for subscriptions and they're not even 50% yet. Could be wrong, but I'd imagine that the majority of people that were planning on signing up wouldn't wait until the last few days to do so. |

I think a DCUC collector's club is a pretty cool idea in theory, but the thing is I think Mattel's really grilling us for money here it really pisses me off. From 2007 to 2009, the price of figures nearly doubled from $8 to $15 while Transformers on the other hand - a line that has very complicated designs with most figures having unique sculpts - only had a price increase of $2. I just hope Hasbro's new ML figures aren't going to cost me an arm and a leg like Mattel's figures.
