For Fun – Marvel Select Ultron and Storm

By Joe Moore on January 13, 2013 at 4:36 pm under Marvel Toy News, Random Photo Shoot

Every now and then we like to post galleries and reviews for product that we acquire, even if they’ve been out for awhile. Today we have two popular Marvel Select figures from Diamond Select Toys. Both Ultron and Storm have been available for some time now, both releasing in 2012.

So if you haven’t picked these up, or just like to look at pics, read on to see our gallery and quick reviews for both figures.

Marvel Select Ultron
Ultron is a very solid and detailed figure. The toy has a metallic paint coating that looks great in person and offers a nice texture contrast to the included base and other Marvel Select figures. The figure features a ton of articulation, including shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips, knees and ankles. There are holes on the bottom of the feet to allow Ultron to attach to the base. Speaking of the base, it features two fallen Avengers; ant Man and Wasp. As you can see from the pics, it’s relatively easy to pose Ultron squashing them below his metal feet.

Off the base, Ultron is a sturdy figure. The weight is balanced enough to allow him to stand in different poses without falling over. The ball jointed shoulders and swivel wrists and elbows allow for some villain great poses. The leg joints are a little tighter, making them a bit harder to move, but they lock into place nicely allowing Ultron to stay standing. The all silver paint is broken up by some cuts and black detail lines. But ultimately he has a very smooth, robotic look to him that does a great job of portraying the character.

Overall, it’s easy to see why Ultron is one of the more popular Marvel Select figures. Definitely worth seeking out.

Marvel Select Storm
Storm comes packaged with a pretty nice Danger Room display base. With two walls as well as the floor, a fully set up storm makes a great display piece. The base features both a buzz saw a flame attachment to add some extra depth to the display. The great thing is her base can connect with the Cyclops and Gambit bases to form a larger Danger Room display.

Storm is decked out in her classic costume, featuring a nearly all black design, a cape and stark white hair and eyes. The paint application is clean with the skin and costume having different finishes. This gives the Storm figure some added detail and texture. Storm also includes a small, all black figure stand, which is pretty much required to get the figure to stand. Storm has some decent articulation, though I would say it’s not as extensive as Ultron’s. With the cape on, there isn’t much you can do with the figure. Arms can move to the front slightly and the legs can’t really do much. Thankfully, the cape can be removed (pop the head off and it can be removed), allowing the figure to showcase a greater range of movements. The leg articulation is slight hindered by the hip design, preventing movement from front to back a bit. Otherwise, it has a great range of motion.

Storm is a very good figure, especially if you plan on investing in the other X-Men figure to complete the Danger Room display. Articulation is slightly limited, but the character looks great on display and the added stand allows for better poses and off the base displaying.
