MattyCollector 2013 Q&A Answers For Toyark.com – June 3

By Shin Densetsu on June 3, 2013 at 6:29 pm under Toyark Spotlight

Welcome to another round of MattyCollector 2013 Q&A! We’ve got our answers back for June. Read on, for we have a very informative batch of answers!

Why is the Batman 1966 line being sculpted in-house rather than being sculpted by the 4H?

There are few reasons including, wanting to differentiate the Batman ’66 sculpts as much as possible from DCU Classics, DC Comics Unlimited, and Movie Masters, to drive home the idea of the line as a very show-specific offering.  Another big reason is workload. Given the full slate of MOTU, DCU Signature Collection, Batman Unlimited, DC Unlimited, and Watchmen that the Four Horsemen are handling, plus epic special projects like Castle Grayskull, it was decided to keep the Classic TV Series Batman figures in house. No one has any proof that the Four Horsemen EVER sleep, but we wanted to make sure they still had the option.

Will we ever see another WWE Elite wrestling Ring at retail?

We hope so! It all depends on retailer interest

This might seem silly to many, but since many of the main MOTUC figures are out and they seem to be grasping for ideas, why not make 7 or 8 inch “animation accurate” versions of some of the main characters (particularly He-Man, Skeletor, and Mer-Man)… sort of the “Masterpiece” line if you will..

These figures could have even more detail, look more faithful to the animation, and would sell like crazy, even at a $60 or $80 price.    This would be additional skus and development and right now we are putting all of our very limited resources into the current MOTUC line. While we would love to expand the lines, the overall adult collector customer base is dwindling as prices continue to rise due to factors we can’t control like labor and materials. Our resources are only finite. We want to put everything we can into the 6″ Classics line for the moment. But you never know what the future will bring.

Most of us collectors witnessed the Green Lantern movie line not selling well. Yet the Man Of Steel line seems to be following the same format; 6″ fully articulated figures for collectors, 4″ minimal articulation figures for kids. We know that retailers want some mainline toys to be a certain way. So did they actually want gimmicked out 4″ figures with minimal articulation? It puzzles us how gimmicks are used in favor of more articulation. When you were kids, didn’t you start desiring figures that could move more? These are superhero figures overall, and our heroes are not static on film, on page, onscreen, et al.

The product line is designed to appeal to everyone.  There are figures that are designed with a kid consumer in mind, and other figures such as the amazing highly detailed, highly articulated Movie Masters, that are designed with the collector in mind.

What are the chances of seeing New 52 Joker in the Batman Unlimited line this year?

There are still a few more figure reveals for the 2013 Batman Unlimited line.  You’ll have to wait and see!

Remember to post your questions for the MattyCollector 2013 Q&A here!
