I received my Robocop ED-209 last night and wanted to share my review and a full gallery of the figure. This highly anticipated figure may be NECA‘s best yet. The figure stands at 10″ tall and is compatible with their previously released 7″ Robocop figures. It features full articulation as well as embedded sound effects.

Review
ED-209 comes packed in a windowless box. The front features a beautiful painting of the ED-209. The sides feature a shot of the figure and the back showcases ED-209 facing off against one of the NECA Robocop figures. Inside, the figure is placed firmly inside cardboard packaging, with enough twisty ties to make early 2000’s Hasbro Transformers figures envious. Once freed from the packaging, the figure is ready to go, with no assembly required. You can, however, remove the plastic tab keeping the batteries from connecting.
For a NECA release, the figure is massive. At 10″ tall, the scale looks pretty spot on when standing side-by-side with their Robocop figures. The sculpted details on this figure are phenomenal. Every gear, every wire and every weapon features intricate detailing. The main paint job is a metallic blue/silver that captures he look of ED-209 perfectly. The paint comes off a bit too blue, but just a bit and it doesn’t detract from the overall look. The darker painted areas, such as the gears, feature a nice wash to bring out the sculpted details. Each wire is independently painted as well, adding to the overall impressive look. I did not notice any stray paint apps or flaws and this is a near perfect application of painted details that add to the sculpt and design of the figure.
The figure features fully rotatable arms, legs that move up and down almost fully around, and a mid point swivel. The waist (for lack of a better term) swivel is a bit limited, so full side to side movement isn’t possible. The legs are fully extendable as well. However, that connection is so tight that it’s a chore to extend the legs out, and ultimately feels like it will break if too much pressure is applied. I extended each leg once for the gallery, and didn’t do so gain for fear of snapping a piece off. Otherwise, I have no complaints about the figure itself.
The sound effects are a nice added bonus. However, the volume is very low and the sound muffled. It doesn’t add much to the figure, but the addition doesn’t detract from it either. No noticeable sacrifices were made to add sound to ED-209.
In the end, the figure is highly, highly recommended. Their is a highly detailed Hot Toys version coming out. But that will feature an insanely high price point. This version features a lot of bang for your buck. It displays wonderfully, features a good range of motion and amazing sculpting and paint applications.
