The reveal of the Lost In Space Minimates was a shocking and welcome reveal. It had been quite some time since we had seen figures from this classic show. Diamond Select Toys focused on the two most memorable characters from the original series; Doctor Zachary Smith and Robot B-9. To top it off, there are both full color and black and white versions of the Minimates 2-Pack. Today’s review and gallery focuses on the Previews Exclusive Black and White Lost In Space Minimates.

Review
Minimates, much like Funko’s Pop! Vinyl Figures, is a series that is just relentless with their releases. I mean that in a good way (for both lines). There’s never a lack of imagination, variety, accessories or just plain fun when it comes to the Minimates line. The Lost In Space 2-Pack is a perfect example of this. The 2-pack includes two additional heads for Dr. Smith as well as a pistol. Those additional heads allow for three different expresions, capturing the whimsical personality of Dr. Smith. The black and white versions really capture the spirit of the original characters, even while being highly stylized. There’s simply no mistaking that this is Dr. Smith and Robot B-9.
As with all Minimates, the articulation for Dr. Smith is simply fantastic. This is all them ore impressive for being a 2″ mini figure. There’s roughly 15 points of articulation on Minimates. And with the figures being so light, posing is easy. If you can’t get the figure to stand correctly, an included Minimates base will keep the figure upright. Robot B-9 features all the same articulation points, but the nature of the design intentionally limits some of the movements to keep the design as close the the show as possible. Painted details are extremely clean and crisp. The wrinkles and expression on the Dr. Smith faces are especially impressive. Robot B-9 also features some nice surprise detailing when the robot torso is removed, showing the painted lights and gears on the underlying chest piece.
If you’re already a fan of Minimates, then there’s really no reason to pass these figures up. They are as well made as any Minimates set, and do a great job of bringing some classic characters to the toy shelf. Check out a few photos highlights below and a full gallery after that.
