Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance was a game that gave us an awesome new take on Raiden. The cyborg is extremely deadly with his blade as well as any firearms. E2046 has captured the character in an all new Gathering pre-painted model kit. Raiden comes in at 1/6 scale, standing a little under 12″ tall. The kit comes with the Raiden, his blade and a stylized figure stand. Like all Gathering kits it requires minor assembly.

Raiden is packaged in the standard E2046 Gathering box. It’s an all black box, with a printed front piece. It opens up to reveal a styrofoam inset, and the pieces each wrapped in foam. The Raiden kit does require some very minor assembly. The main body is in tact, with only his right arm and hands, a piece of leg armor, as well as his sheath needing to be attached. No glue is required and the pieces fit together perfectly. The stand, a crumbled earth texture, allows the figure to stand in with two peg holes, while the previous ones I had reviewed only had one. This keeps the figure in place firmly.
The first thing I noticed is how fantastic the paint job was on this kit. The kit was treated with great care, and the sculpted details are really brought to life with painted on shadows, highlights and texture details. The armor parts are shiny without being overly reflective, and the non-metallic pieces are treated to a more matte finish. The armor pieces also feature fine texture details, while the skin and hair are much smoother and feature softer looking paint blends. This kit is also much less fragile than anything I’ve seen from E2046. While light in weight, the kit is extremely solid, and nothing feels even a little brittle.
Overall, this is the best kit I’ve received from E2046. The sculpting is perfect, the paints are detailed, and the construction is solid. Fans of the game will be delighted with this kit.
