DC Collectibles Arkham Origins Wave 2 Gallery

By Tony_Bacala on March 21, 2014 at 11:34 am under DC Toy News, Random Photo Shoot

DC Collectibles Arkham Origins 7 inch action figures continued this month with the release of Wave 2. This wave included an all villain lineup – Anarky, Deadshot, Deathstroke, Firefly and Killer Croc. The wave takes some characters that are not normally represented in the Batman universe and gives them a top notch presentation. All of the figures have outstanding sculpts and paint, with varying ranges of articulation. On top of this, Killer Croc is almost double the size of the standard 7 Inch figures – for the same retail price. Check out some additional thoughts on the figures and over 80 high res images in our standard gallery after the break!

Anarky – I wasn’t very familiar with the character until recently, so I really had no reason to grab him other than wanting to have all the Arkham Origins figures from DCC. I am glad I did. The figure has a great paint job, lots of fine details such as the Anarchy “A” on the jacket, the backpack and even some pins on his jacket. His molitov cocktail accessory is cool, but a bit top heavy so it can’t be held with the flame pointing the right direction without some putty help. This figure utilized some unique engineering as well. The hood is a thin piece of rubber that can be folded down – but when in it’s normal position it stays in place. This allows for some head movement giving different looks since the hood is basically stationary. Another unique method with rubber are the arms. The jacket arms are actually rubber over top a clear plastic stick. Touching it you can feel it’s actually hollow, and if you roll it up you can see the basic peg of a forearm. When posing, this gives a different look to the arms since the jacket moves and bends depending on how it’s posed. From a distance you can’t tell, the hood and arms keep color and paint application consistency for the most part.

Deadshot – I think this is the sleeper of the bunch. Another character I don’t really care about but has been getting some play lately – here, in Arrow (TV), Suicide Squad, etc. The paint applications on this guy are top notch, they really pop. Vibrant oranges with deep blues and greys play off each other well. There are clean paint apps throughout the figure such as zippers, bullets and knuckle highlights. He incorporates a wider range of articulation like Wave 1 Batman – head, upper torso 360 spin and slight left/right dip, waist 360 spin, t-crotch with outward movement, double jointed knees, above-boot swivels, and ankle rockers. This allows for some pretty dynamic poses. Coupled with the awesome sculpt and paint, it’s a winner. Just wish I cared for the character a bit more.

Deathstroke – This was the one I was looking forward to from Wave 2. It’s a pretty solid figure, but there is something a bit off. I think since these are coming from the game, something didn’t translate well to physical form. He is a bit bulbous for lack of a better word. Lots of armor plating which really stands off the figure. You can notice this the most with his head, which sits far back compared to his chest plate. This restricts his movement in the legs a bit as well, so even though we got the double jointed knees and ankle rockers, he still can’t do much and look right. Personally for Deathstroke, I’d go with the Mattel version or the DCC New 52 version for pure looks. Be careful with his weapons – the sword is a plaster like material – mine snapped in half attempting to remove it from the package :(.

Arkham Origins Deathstroke - I dig the New52 more.

Firefly – Another great sculpt for an obscure character. It’s cool they are giving these guys from the game some love and this is well done. Paint again really plays well, popping the yellow off the black and grey. The weapon is nice, with a rubber connector shooting around to the back. He has 2 mech like wings which plug into ports on the back and are removable. They are a bit of a pain to keep in there though, any bump and they tend to fall out. Same with the weapon, doesn’t really stick in the hand. On top of this, I had another breakage issue – leg snapped off immediately on first attempt at movement. Clear plastic crossbar – this is the second time this year I’ve run across this problem. I guess there is something to that. Or I’m a heavy handed heathen, either way. :)

Arkham Origins Firefly - If it didn't break I'd like it more.

Killer Croc – One word – BIG. This is no hollow oversized figure – this is a brick (in a good way). His detailing and sculpting is phenomenal. Sharp and crisp on both fronts. Articulation is actually pretty good, giving us head, shoulder, single joint elbows, wrist swivel and dips, ab crunch, waist swivel, a wide ranging t-crotch, single joint knees and almost-ankle-rockers. You can get a lot more out of this guy than you would have expected being so big. And, the kicker – he’s the same price (or a bit more depending on where you go) as the regular figures – about 25 bucks. Almost double the size, no real hold back in anything. So, that’s a score.

Arkham Origins Killer Croc - BIG. Well done DCC, well done.

Overall Wave 2 was a real treat, a step up from wave one overall, but nothing shines like Wave 1 Batman. Check out our entire standard gallery for all of Arkham Origins Wave 2 below!
