30th Anniversary Voltron High Res Gallery

Toynami reacquired the Voltron license after a brief stint with Mattel. They had put out a pretty solid modern Voltron during the 20th and 25th anniversary, featuring diecast lions and chrome swords. To celebrate this year’s 30th anniversary they’ve tweaked that set to add light up eyes, a base with lights and sounds, and added in individual lion weapons, also chromed. To top it off, they produced a lion key which activates the base, transforming from flight suit communicator to key just like the show. Modern update to the classic figures
Base is nice, adds to presentation

Hard to stand in any position other than straight up
Face is difficult to flip down in black lion mouth due to light connectors

Overall
This is just a tweak to the previous Masterpiece Voltron’s by Toynami. However, I never grabbed those, so being able to jump in here was nice. We get the chrome the 20th anniversary had, with the bonus lion weapons and stands. The light up features, while nice in theory, was not a selling point for me. I was cool with the base lights and sound more than the eyes. That seemed a bit forced, and causes some problems positioning the face in Voltron mode. Nothing you can’t work around, but bottom line not necessary. The lion key activator was also cool, even comes with a detachable clip so you can wear it around pretending your Keith. :) This is a great presentation piece, and if you don’t have a version of Voltron in your collection yet and want one, it’s a solid set worth picking up.
