Horror Series ReAction Figures Toyark Gallery

Funko’s ongoing series of retro style ReAction Figures continues with their ReAction Horror Series Figures. The first wave contains some of the most iconic modern horror icons from the last 30 years. Included in the series are the following figures:

Toyark sponsor Entertainment Earth has provided us with the figures, and I’m happy to share a massive gallery with you. Unfortunately, in our haste to get the orders in, we accidentally forgot to add The Crow to our cart. Once I grab the figure, I’ll update the gallery with photos of the figure as well. Overall

I was super excited to get these, and was mostly pleased with what Funko and Super 7 accomplished here. The card art design is perfectly horror themed, with a nice select of character photos. It was nice that all of the cards featured actual character art, as opposed to generic imagery from the movie series.

The figures themselves are instantly recognizable. Each figure comes with a single accessory, like Freddy’s fedora, Pinhead’s Puzzle Box, and Sam’s Cracked Lollypop. Like all ReAction figures, these are styled after retro Kenner designs, and feature 5 points of articulation and mostly simplified sculpts. A few of them, though, really stand out. Jason and Michael Myers both look fantastic. I love that the head sculpt on Michael Myers is slightly oversized to mimic the look of someone wearing the mask. Ghostface also look good, but he’s a hard figure to mess up. The real stand out may be Sam from Trick R’ Treat. The smaller figure, about 2.5″ tall, features some really beautifulls sculpted details. The mask, especially, has some finely added texture to give the feel of a burlap sack.

On the down size, Freddy Krueger really took a wrong turn in the head sculpt department. From farther away, it looks ok. But upon closer inspection, the figure features an oddly goofy expression as his lower teeth are sticking out. this gives him a very “dorky” look that feels out of place. It’s a shame, because the rest of the figure details are astounding, especially the glove hand. Also a bit out of place is the head sculpt for Pinhead, who comes off looking almost friendly. the painted on eyes have an almost sympathetic look to them, where as a slightly slanted eyelid paint would have made the figure look a bit more evil.

Also, as a huge horror fan, some of the match ups between the characters and logos bother me a bit. I’m guessing they are going for a “series” look, as opposed to a specific movie look for each character. It won’t bother most, but I took a bit of issue with Freddy having the logo from the first film, character art from the third film and a figure design from the third film or later (in the first film his sleeves are simply red with no stripes. Likewise with Jason, the card features a standard Friday the 13th logo. However, the card also features art from Part 6 and a figure inspired, mostly, by part 3. It’s the little things that make the biggest difference, and it’s just a bit of a bummer that things seemed a bit mish mashed at times.

In the end, however, these are still a great selection of figures. They display nicely together and will go nicely with the newly released Universal Horror ReAction figures.
