Walking Dead Building Set - The Governor's Room Photo Shoot - The Toyark

When McFarlane first announced The Walking Dead Building Block Sets, I was excited and intrigued. While they were compatible with existing brick lines, such as LEGO and MEGA Bloks, the aesthetic was wildly different. These sets, which are Toys “R” Us Exclusive, are now hitting shelves. I managed to snag a few and will be doing up detailed photo shoots.

First up is The Walking Dead – The Governor’s Room Building Set. Included are pieces to assemble a The Governor’s isolated room, filled with walker heads in fish tanks, as well as his zombified daughter; Penny. Read on to see over 60 photos of the set, as well as a review.

Overall
The Governor’s Room features 292 pieces and two figures. Unassembled, the parts look like a mix of classic bricks and model kit pieces. Everything comes unassembled, from the floor, to the walls, to the fish tanks, the figures and even the desk and lamp. However, with the way the pieces are packaged, its easy to keep track of everything. Assembly is a breeze. With many of the pieces featuring fine details, finding out where they go is simple. I barely needed to glance at the instructions as I pieced this together.

The set, however, may not be for all brick fans. As I said, this was very easy to assemble, and it went together quickly. It took roughly 15 to 20 minutes to assemble fully. That was fine for me, as I don’t have the patience for hours (or days) long builds. So the fast and easy assembly was great in my eyes.

The biggest concern I had going into the world of Walking Dead building Sets were the initial pictures that were released. Those photos featured fully painted, detailed sculpts and environments. It was the kind of intricate details that get lost when mass production versions get to the hands of fans. I am very pleased to see that the finished set lived up to those original pictures. Everything features fine textures, varied paint apps and, at times, a fine dark wash to bring out the sculpting. The sculpted Walker heads in the fish tanks are far more detailed than expected. The base contains LED lights (batteries included), that are surprisingly strong. It’s a great effect.

The Governor’s Room is basically a miniature diorama, which is what I wanted more than anything. It’s not the full play sets that LEGO and Kre-O put out. Other than the way they are assembled, they don’t have all that much in common with most brick sets. Think of these as pre-painted, easy to assemble model kits with a great finished look. If that sounds appealing (for me it was), then grab this as quickly as possible.
