Predator ReAction Figures Toyark Gallery and Review

The Predator ReAction Figure by Funko and Super 7 comes in four different variations. You can get a helmeted, unmasked with closed mouth, unmasked with open mouth and masked clear versions. As far as I can tell, these are available in equal amounts. Fans will have a choice to get the Predator in the style they most like, or all four to get a nice, varied, Predator clan. Toyark sponsor Entertainment Earth has provided us with all four figures, and I have over 60 photos of the figures.

Overall
Some ReAction Figures seem like a no brainer. Be it the original era, the retro vibe of the characters or just something that translates well. The Predator seemed like a logical choice. The choice of four styles is pretty cool. It hits all of the main looks of the 1987 Predator. Most fans may be content to settle with two or three of these guys. The sculpted design have the soft look we’ve come to expect from the ReAction line. Some of the details are actually more intricate than you’d expect. The helmet, wrist blade, shoulder cannon all look quite nice. The figures have some really clean paint application, and the clear versions does not feel cheap. The figures also have peg holes in their feet to work with 3.75″ figure stands, which is a welcome addition. The Predator fits in well with the previously released Alien ReAction Figure. If you opt only for one of the unmasked guys, go with the “open mouth” variant, which really looks nice next to the helmeted version.

Unfortunately, for me, that’s were the positives end. The whole point of the ReAction line is to mimic when Kenner did with their figures for lines that never had these styles. Well, Kenner did do Predator figures, though they were not in 3.75″ scale. It seems like a missed opportunity to not have a Kenner inspired design for the cardback, even if just for one of the variants. The added shoulder cannon blocks the head from turning at all and some of the sculpted details on the chest seem a bit too soft, even for the ReAction line. I also feel that the lack of any accessories seems a little odd. There’s plenty of small items, such as a skull (with or without spine), a removable shoulder cannon, removable blades that could have added some more value to the figures. Also, I’m not entirely convinced there was a need for two unmasked head variants.

It may seem like I hate these, but I don’t. I think they’re good representations of the ReAction Figure line. The clear one, especially, just looks cool next to other figures. However, the Predators feel a bit by the numbers and I feel like it could have been an inspired Predator that really feels retro. NECA has plenty of Kenner inspired designs for their line that fulfill that nostalgia itch with more modern looking figures hat are direct takes on the classic line. If you’re looking for a Predator figure to go with your Alien ReAction line, or just dig the ReAction stuff in general, then at least one of these is a must buy. They fit in perfectly with the lineup.
