Star Wars Rebels Tie Advanced Prototype & More

Star Wars Rebels is in full swing on Disney XD and Hasbro’s figures are filtering out to market. The fine folks over at Hasbro sent through a sample box with some of the items availble – The Tie Advanced Prototype and two 12 inch Titan figures. We then went and grabbed the Toys R Us revel 3 pack featuring Kanan, Ezra and Holo Kenobi, which has been out for a while now. We were trying for an Inquisitor to match the Tie Advanced, but, he is no where to be found but eBay. :(. Anyway, we ran these Saga Legends figures and vehicles through a photo shoot, so check it out after the break along with some quick thoughts!

Overall Thoughts:

Not going to go too deep into reviewing these. We at Toyark normally keep our focus on 6 inch Black Series, but since Hasbro sent thru a care package we wanted to share. First off, the Tie Advanced is pretty cool. It’s a basic vehicle, but immediately throws you back to the original Tie Fighters from the 80s. Basic grey, sectioned circular window, cockpit hatch, done. No pop off wings or anything, but the wings do fold out and in. Not sure if that will be seen in the show or it was just for packaging purposes, but if you are a kid and have imagination you could putz around with those while playing for sure. I wanted to grab an Inquisitor for the pics, but he is just now hitting retail shelves and is being scooped up quick. So, I instead grabbed the Jedi Reveal three pack which is a TRU excluisve.

These are basic 5 POA figures of the Rebels characters. Our collector community is not happy with the shift to 5 points of articulation in various lines, Star Wars included. I must say though, the sculpt on these are great. They match the show well, and are cheap (6 bucks each at Target). For kids, or a super casual collector who just wants a small representation of the show on his/her shelves, they do the job. Personally I’ll be grabbing the core Rebels and an Inquisitor now that I’ve broke the seal, pose em with the Tie seen here, done. Hopefully down the line we get some Black Series level stuff of these characters though.

The Titans, well, I’m not a fan. They are everywhere, for all the Hasbro lines. As are other large size, basic figures. 12/20/30 and even 48 inch ones. It’s a trend I don’t get and don’t support. Apparently they sell, and are justifying their existence, but I find them cheap looking, and now that I’ve handled them, cheap feeling. I don’t like to hate, and they aren’t aimed at me, but I think it’s a cop out.

So, to wrap up, 3.75 Rebels 5 POA – better than expected, and think it’s a good way to keep the kids involved. 12 inch, bleh, I hope the fad passes.
