The Walking Dead Minimates Series 7 - Toyark Photo Shoot - The Toyark

Diamond Select Toys continues their line of popular Walking Dead Minimates with series 7. The newest releases give us a mix of new and returning figures. The series is a mix of a few different story lines from the comics. It includes characters from 2010’s “Fear The Hunters”, 2010’s “Too Far Gone”, and last years “All Out War” story arcs. We have a full gallery of the series, which includes the following 2-packs:

Pros

Finally get a Negan Minimate
Dwight figure has some great details
Holly can be displayed in normal or Walker version
Plenty of character specific weapons (Lucile!)

Cons

Chris seems out of place in the wave

Overall
The Series 7 Walking Dead Minimates finally give us a few new characters who appear in current comic stories. The inclusion of Negan makes this wave for me. It’s no surprise that he includes Lucile, his barbed wire bat that caused plenty of heartache for Rick’s crew in the comics. As much as I was happy to get the Negan figure, Dwight may be the overall standout of the assortment. Dwight has some great details, including his scarred face, missing hair, and nicely done tattoos. Add in fan favorite “Jesus” and a crazy looking Rick Grimes and you have a really nice character driven wave.

The inclusions of both Derek and Chris seem just a bit out of place. Derek has a relation to Alexandria, but was a very minor character in the comic. Chris would have felt more at home in an earlier wave, perhaps with a Dale pack-in. I do get why he was included, though. In the TV show, Gareth, in many ways, was the embodiment of the comic series’ Chris, with both being cannibals and featuring a similar look. And with that storyline taking place recently in the show, it becomes a nice call back to that moment in the comics.

The bottom line is that DST hit a home run with guys like Negan and Dwight. They’re nice representations of their comic counterparts. If you’re a fan of the Walking Dead and Minimates, then, at the very least, those figures are must owns.
