Rambo: The Force of Freedom was a cartoon and toy line from 1986. The line was spawned from the classic Rambo series of films and was produced by Coleco. For San Diego Comic-Con 2015, NECA produced a great homage to the classic John Rambo figure. Their Rambo: The Force of Freedom 7″ Scale Figure, which Toyark was given a chance to exclusively reveal prior to SDCC, features a paint scheme and packaging that harkens back to the 1986 figure.

Overall
The Force of Freedom Rambo figure comes in a great packaging homage to the classic line. It features a nice piece of retro style artwork and the actual Force of Freedom logo from the older line. The back features a bio for Rambo as well as a product shot check list of various John Rambo figures. Eagle eyed fans noticed that the checklist photos on the back revealed the next figure in the line. A collectible file card with bio is also included inside the package. The cardback style packaging can’t be resealed if you decide to open it up, though you can carefully cut the tape on the bubble and slice just along the top of it to preserve the cardback itself.
Once out of the packaging, FoF Rambo is a nice addition to the growing Rambo series line up. It features 25 points of articulation and include four additional interchangeable hands. Rambo also includes a machine gun, a compound bow, arrows, a grenade and a knife. The knife can be placed into the sheath on Rambo’s belt. The head sculpt is newly developed for the release and features a good likeness of Sly Stallone. The joints on the figure are nice and tight and I noticed no issues with sticking joints, so I had no fear of breakage. There’s plenty of articulation and I was able to pose Rambo in just about any style I wanted, from holding the machine gun to pulling the bow back. The waist can turn and has a bit of ab crunch to it. Hand can be swapped out easily and the weapons all have a nice solid feel to them.
If you grew up with toy like Rambo: The Force of Freedom, or just like to collect NECA’s Rambo line, then this is worth seeking out. The only minor complaint I can find is that the bandana is a very dark shade of red, where as the original figure had a bright red bandana. It doesn’t detract from the overall aesthetic and here’s plenty to enjoy here. The unique head sculpt hasn’t been used yet, and the figure is full great accessories, weapons and nods to the classic line.
