Friday the 13th Part 6 – Jason Voorhees Retro Figure – Toyark Photo Shoot

By Joe Moore on August 1, 2015 at 3:24 pm under Horror Toy News, Random Photo Shoot

NECA‘s line of retro style 8″ figures continues to impress with their newest release. The Friday the 13th Part 6: Jason Lives – Jason Voorhees Retro 8″ Scale Figure is the latest addition to the ranks. In the sixth film in the long running franchise, Jason is inadvertently brought back to life by the bumbling of Tommy Jarvis and his friend Hawes, who pays with his life. Now a completely unstoppable killing machine, Jason returns to the Crystal Lake area and proceeds to tear through everyone in his path. This installment marks a shift in the series and brought us Jason as an undead killer. What a better way to celebrate the 29th anniversary of the film than to post a gallery of an all new Jason Voorhees figure. NECA was kind enough to send a review sample along. We have nearly 60 photos of the figure.

Check out our NECA Toy Galleries for even more retro figure fun.

Friday the 13th Part 6: Jason Lives – Jason Voorhees Retro 8″ Scale Figure

Pros

  • Excellent representation of the character
  • Lots of intricate details
  • Removable mask
  • Zombified head sculpt is superb
  • Plenty of articulation
  • Can store knife and machete in sheaths

Cons

  • Knife and Machete sheaths could have used a bit more glue

Overall
This was a highly anticipated figure from the moment it was revealed back at Toy Fair 2015. The figure is packaged in clamshell style packaging that can be closed back up for storage or display. The cardback features excellent character artwork by Jason Edmiston. Included with the figure is a metal fence post, a machete, a hunting knife and a removable hockey mask. Jason is dressed in a cloth outfit and has a belt that wraps around him. The belt holds a sheath for the knife and the machete. A quick bit of caution. The sheaths are each held on by a dab of glue. Mine both popped off, but I glued them back in place easily. Within ten minutes I was back to shooting the figure, but just be aware.

The figure itself uses NECA’s Retro Figure 2.0 body type, which is now the standard body for their 8″ figures. It has more than enough articulation, allowing for just about any pose. The ankle joints seemed really strong on this figure as I had no trouble with any standing pose at all. The hands feature gripping fists, with one hand geared towards the machete and the other better suited for the knife. The fence post splits in the middle for easy storage and to allow for two handed posing with the it. Sculpting and fabrication are both top notch. The hockey mask is pretty spot on. The outfit is screen accurate and less puffy than, say, Freddy’s sweater. The best sculpt comes from the zombified Jason head design. It’s extremely well detailed and has multiple layers of paint wash over it to add a gruesome, slimy look. Speaking of paint, there is a nice use of additional paint throughout. The clothes have blood splatters on them, while the belt and gloves have a dark wash over them to bring out the details.

Top to bottom, this is a really impressive figure. It looks fantastic with other horror retro figures from NECA. The top notch sculpting and good use of paint add a lot of depth. The attention to small details, such as the tool belt, gloves and removable mask, all make for a fun figure to pose and shoot. Don’t fret of the sheaths pop off, a small bit of crazy glue will fix that. For those that aren’t into the retro cloth figures, keep an eye out for NECA’s 7″ scale Jason Lives figure, which was shown at SDCC 2015 and is coming soon.
