Play Arts Kai Spider-Man Marvel Variant Photo Shoot

Square Enix has been on a tear with the Play Arts Kai Variants this year. They’ve expanded the DC offerings to include a very full Justice League roster, done a full round of Batman alternate takes, launched Star Wars with a fury, and now they are attacking Marvel. The PAK Variants are just that – non-screen/comic-accurate takes on the classic characters, just meant to be a cool alternate version from Square’s artistic eye. Marvel launched with Iron Man, but we decided to wait for Spider-Man. When they showed him off back at Toy Fair 2015, we were hyped. He is finally out in both Japan and at US retailers importing them so we are going to take a look after the break courtesy of site sponsor Entertainment Earth!

Overall
If you like the idea of the PAK Variant line and Spider-Man, then this guy is for you as he was for me. I don’t like them all but this one hits the right notes. It has an armored look but with classic colors and little black tossed in, makes it feel almost like an Iron Spider suit in OG colors. The piece is big, almost double the height of a standard Marvel Legends figure. I personally like having different versions (suits and toy styles) of these guys on my shelves to mix it up, and the Variant lines are the perfect way to break up a block of the “same o same o”. He’s currently busting out of the pack legs extended shooting a web and that’s just what I was looking for. I am not really feeling the rest of the Marvel offerings so far, but this Spidey is tops as a one off.
