Diamond Select Toys has unleashed their latest horror themed box set to the world! The Universal Monsters Legacy Series IV Box Set includes three classic Universal Studios monsters. These figures also come in a black and white color scheme to celebrate the original films. This set, which sells for $50, is available now at comic and specialty shops. Universal Monsters Legacy Series IV Box Set

Overall
Right in time for Halloween, we have this gallery of classic monsters. The Universal Monsters Select series is one that has been constantly improving. So much so, that DST has revisited a few figures, such as the Creature from the Black Lagoon, The Wolfman and the Mummy, to bring those characters up to snuff with the other newer releases. These three figure are repaints of previously released characters, however, these are in black and white color schemes. Here are some thoughts on each figure.
Mole Person
This figure is a really nice sculpt. The details on the head sculpt are spot on. Of the three, articulation is probably the best on the Mole Person. He has great range of motion in the arms and legs. The soft goods on the torso hide the waist articulation, but it is there and works fine. The hips can still swing out and aren’t hindered too much by the soft goods. The included base is a small, dirt landscape style base. There are no accessories included with the Mole Man, as the character really didn’t warrant it.
Mr. Hyde
On the box, it says that it can transform into Dr. Jekyll. However, there was no alternate head included. The individual color release of this figure does include an alternate head. Other than that, this is the most robust figure in the set. Mr. Hyde includes the best of the three diorama bases, a rooftop with chimney. It also includes a removable soft cape, a top hat and a walking stick. Mr. Hyde looks really nice with or without the additional pieces attached. The head sculpt is a nice representation of the film version. The cape sits on the shoulders well, but still allows plenty of arm movement. The soft goods on the torso make posing the legs a bit more difficult, but once I worked the figure a bit, it became much easier to pose the legs.
Quasimodo
Probably the best overall figure in the set. Quasimodo is fantastic from top to bottom. The sculpt is well done with an excellent head sculpt. He includes a cape, crown and scepter, which are all removable. He includes a nice stone diorama base. Articulation is excellent on the figure. The soft goods are molded in a way that the legs aren’t hindered at all, and the waist movement is not covered over. The painted details on the Quasimodo figure offer some nice touches, such as the painted Fleur de Lis pattern on his cape pops nicely. The crown sits on the head perfectly as it’s a soft vinyl piece.
Overall, this is a really solid set. The value of this is pretty nice. Each one usually sells for about $25 each, so for the price of two figures, you get three. These go nicely with the previously released Legacy Series box sets if you have them. These are available in stores now.
