NECA wraps up their small Terminator: Genisys 7″ Scale Figure line with the third, and likely, final release. In the film, Sarah Connor and Kyle Reese travel to 2017. Due to damage from a fight with a T-1000, the Guardian T-800 is unable to make the jump with them. Instead, he spends that time prepping for their arrival. When they get to 2017, we meet the much older (but not obsolete) Guardian T-800; aka “Pops“. The 2017 version of the Guardian T-800 is that final release. Overall
Pops comes packaged in the same style box as the previous two Terminator Genisys figures. The window box is great for display or for figure storage. The figure is held into the tray by a single twist tie. The figure includes an alternate battle damaged head, a swappable battle damaged arm piece and a shotgun. That’s a some decent value for $20.
The figure has a solid sculpt. It shares the main body with the regular Guardian T-800. The jacket has been switched to match the 2017 version. There are two heads included featuring the older looking Arnold Schwarzenegger likeness. The first head is a standard sculpt, while the second features the Endoskeleton showing through. The likeness is ok. I think it was bit better on the standard Guardian T-800. Paint apps are great throughout. The gray streaks in the hear, the wash over the skin and the handling of the outfits are all handled very well.
Pops feature 16+ points of articulation. None of the sculpted pieces hinder the movement, which is always a plus. Joints are nice and solid. I experienced no paint lock with the joints. The figure has decent balance and was able to hold most standing poses with little trouble. The heads are easily swapped back and forth as well. The only real difficult piece to work with is the swappable left arm. The main arm has a thick connector, which requires some good heat (I used a hairdryer) and a lot of patience to remove. The difficulty mainly lies in the first time you remove it. After that, I was able to swap them out a little bit easier.
The figure makes a solid addition to the Terminator line-up. It’s probably not going to be a must buy for casual fans. However, those that do buy it get solid value for the price, a highly detailed sculpt, plenty of articulation, and a nice companion piece to the other Arnold T-800’s.
