NECA Heroes of the Storm Stitches – Toyark Photo Shoot

By Joe Moore on January 21, 2016 at 3:00 pm under Random Photo Shoot, Video Game Toy News

Welcome to gallery 499! Tomorrow we hit 500 and hope you will tune in to check it out. The Heroes of the Storm toy line by NECA is a pretty big hit so far. They have released some really fantastic characters from the Blizzard Entertainment universe so far. None more popular than Tyrael and Arthas I’d say. It’s not surprising as the fan bases for both World of Warcraft and Diablo 3 are massive. While I skipped wave 1, I couldn’t pass up the fantastic choices for Wave 2. Toyark sponsor Entertainment Earth sent along the Heroes of the Storm Stitches Deluxe Figure for us to review. I also managed to finally find both Arthas and Tyrael to include in the photo shoot. After the jump, find my full review for Stitches as well as over 55 high resolution images.

NECA Heroes of the Storm – Stitches 7″ Scale Figure

Pros

  • Gorgeously grotesque sculpt
  • Great attention to detail throughout
  • Very detailed paint apps
  • Lots of weapons
  • Good articulation

Cons

  • Hairs stuck in the paint
  • Paint locked elbow joints

Overall
Stitches is a large scale deluxe style figure. The monster originated rom the Warcraft universe. Unlike the rest of the Heroes of the Storm figures (so far), this comes in a full window box. Stitches is mounted into a cardboard backer using a few twist ties, and the weapons are hidden off to the sizes. The figure can be easily placed back inside for display or storage.

Once removed from the box, Stitches is an absolute sight to behold. The figure features a sculpt that highlights the gruesome nature of the figure. Each sewn together limb, each gaping wound, each nasty bit of entrails are filled with little details that look great. The figure stands about 7″ tall, but it’s overall girth makes it a beast of a figure. The sculpting does a great job of hiding the articulation points. Speaking of which, there’s a surprising amount of overall movement here. Some of the most impressive articulation is on the head, neck and jaw, which allows for great expressions while posing. The shoulders, elbows, and wrists all feature the expected joints and swivels. The torso is ball jointed at the chest. The hips, knees and ankles also have movement. Stitches features a third articulated arm as well. There’s plenty of fun to be had posing the figure.

The paint apps are extremely detailed here. The shades of blues, purples and greens help to sell the dead flesh nature of the figure. The figures has sewn together parts, which are painted with the appropriate red, to show the blood underneath. The stomach is a giant gaping mouth, complete with rib cage teeth and hanging innards. It’s quite gruesome looking. The entire figure has a wash of purple over it, making the skin look almost translucent. However, the figure is far from it. There is a LOT of layers of paint here. It helps give Stitches that super detailed look. It looks like some hairs or fuzz got trapped between the layers on the figure I received.  The other issue with the thick paint were the elbow joints. Mine were paint locked. The paint in those areas looked to have fused together. I was able to loose the arms using a hair dryer, though I didn’t want to chance pushing them too far while the pieces were heated up. Thankfully, this seems to be the exception, rather than the norm. Other images I’ve seen show the elbows bent much further on moth arms. I’ll be taking mine to warm water next, to help release those tighter areas.

Stitches includes a giant Clever, a hook and a hook and chain. Each fits into a specific hand. The hook and clever both split on their handles, making it easier to slide into the hands. By doing that, the hands hold them very firmly. This allows dynamic poses without fear of the heavy clever spinning around in his hand, which was great.

While this review is for Stitches, I’d like to mention that both Tyrael and Arthas are basically perfect. Not only were their no issues, the figures feature beautiful sculpts and excellent paint apps. For Stitches, I am really happy with the figure. The sculpt is near perfect. The paint issues I had appear to be isolated incidents. A hair dryer will be your best friend if you do get paint lock though. Otherwise, the massive figure is a gorgeous figure to display and pose.
