Prior to its reveal at San Diego Comic-Con 2015, the Bat Gremlin was one of the most requested figures for NECA to produce. The Gremlins line has had some truly excellent releases so far, with figures like the Spider Gremlin, and the Bat Gremlin is an excellent addition to the line up. It’s one of the most unique and fun designs from Gremlins 2: The New Batch. Its brief appearance in the sequel has had a lasting impression on fans and has been one of the most anticipated releases since NECA began their Gremlins line. The figure is a deluxe 7″ scale figure with a massive wingspan of nearly 18″.

Overall
The Bat Gremlin comes packed in a deluxe window box. The box features a Gothic cathedral motif, which hearkens back to the ultimate demise of the Bat Gremlin from the film. It sits on a plastic tray, with no twist ties needed. The figure can easily be placed back inside for display or storage. Included in the box is the figure, the flight stand and a cathedral roof backdrop dio display. The stand is broken into three pieces with easy assembly. It’s a nice box design that will look great on the shelf.
Once removed from the box, the figure is ready for display or play. There’s no assembly required, other than the flight stand. The Bat Gremlin stands about 6″ tall and just under 18″ wide when the wings are fully expanded. The wings are a good spot to start with this review. They are made of a very soft plastic that can be bent or folded however you see fit. The wings have a great weight to them, which helps to hold the assorted positions you move them into. They’re mounted to the back of the figure and work amazingly well. There’s a little space between the wings and the torso, allowing you to easily mount the figure to the flight stand. The Bat Gremlin has plenty of articulation, right up there will the best in the Gremlins line. The ears and jaw are hinged, and the joints for those are quite strong. The shoulders and hips are ball jointed, as are two spots on the neck. The neck allows for looking up or down as well as side to side. The elbows, wrists, knees and ankles are also articulated. Combine that with the endlessly poseable wings and the flight stand, you have a figure that can strike dozens of great poses. Even better, none of the joints were loose or paint locked. There is a small cost here as the wight of the wings can make it a little tough to stand without using a NECA stand or the flight stand. It’s possible, but keep it in mind when displaying.
Great articulation wouldn’t mean anything if the sculpt wasn’t up to snuff. Thankfully, the crew at NECA handled the design of the Bat Gremlin with great care. This is a near flawless execution and could easily stand in as a prop from the film at first glance. The fine details are all present, with leather-like texture in the wings, and fine porous texture to the rest of the skin. The sculptors were able to hide many of the articulation points in the sculpt itself. I would stumble upon a spot that moved simply because it looked like a solid piece throughout (like the wrists). Paint is handled with just as much care here, as the darker color patches and subtle shifts in skin color bring out the small sculpted details. Paint lines are clean, especially in areas like the eyes, teeth and hands. The whole figure is covered in clear coat, which gives it a fresh, and very reptilian shine to the figure.
The figure falls somewhere between “Most Own” and “Seriously, Why Don’t You Have This Yet”. It tops even the excellent Spider Gremlin in the line, which is no small feat. Sculpt, paint and articulation are all top notch here. If you’re a Gremlins fan, there really shouldn’t be anything stopping you from grabbing this.
