Diamond Select Toys has been releasing a series of Aliens inspired collectible banks, which have included an Alien Warrior Bust and an Alien Egg. There is an upcoming Big Chap Alien Bust Bank as well. Their latest release, the Alien Queen Bust Bank, is now available at comic and specialty shops. The bank stands roughly 8.5″ tall. It features a sculpt by Jean St. Jean, who works on many DST releases, such as their Universal Horror Select Figures.
We are happy to share a new high resolution gallery and review of the Alien Queen Bust Bank. We have over 25 photos. You can see the pics and thoughts on the bank by reading on.
Aliens – Alien Queen Bust Bank by Diamond Select Toys
Pros
- Nice sculpt
- Excellent paint work
- Makes a nice, inexpensive Alien Queen Bust
Cons
- Wish it were more in scale with the Alien Warrior
Overall
As you may or may not know, I’m a big fan of many DST Bust and Statue Banks. I’ve always found them to be great alternatives to more expensive busts or statues. They allowed for high quality looking display pieces for those with a stricter budget. Their Alien (and Predator) releases have been pretty fantastic so far. The Alien Queen comes packaged in a plastic bag, with cardboard protectors over the dorsal pieces. It’s ready for display immediately upon opening.
The overall look is really nice here. The Alien Queen is presented with her mouth open, mid scream. You can see the inner snapping jaw and the head crest is slid back a bit to reveal more of the face. For the most part the sculpting is nice here. There’s a lot of fine details throughout. The different texture work, such as the small bone pieces in the neck, are handled with care. Though, compared to something like NECA’s Alien Queen figure, this is a bit on the softer side, with sharp points rounded a bit and ultra fine details not quite as pronounced. The paint work, though, is top notch. The bust has nice paint washes of blues, blacks and even a bit of gold in spots. These washes bring out the sculpted details, and add a great sheen to it. The bust is made of a hard vinyl and feels pretty sturdy. The coin slot is hidden fairly well on the back, and the coins (if you do decide to use it as a bank) can be removed from a cap in the bottom of the bust.
As bust banks go, this is a pretty nice one. I do feel it’s too small, and was expecting something a bit larger to compare better with the previously released Warrior Alien Bust Bank. But, with the price as low as $25, it’s hard to complain. It looks good side-by-side with the other Alien banks or by itself and the paint work here is really a stand out. Check out a few key shots below, with the full gallery after that.
