For San Diego Comic-Con 2016, fans had a chance to buy an exclusive Aliens 30th Anniversary Rebecca “Newt” Jordan 7″ Scale Figure by NECA. Earlier today, we found out that NECA would be offering non-attendees a chance to get the figure in a new 2-pack that included Newt and Ripley. The SDCC 2016 Exclusive Version offers some accessories that won’t be included with the new 2-pack, allowing them to be two unique releases. The exclusive version includes a lamp, a 2nd grade award portrait of Newt, Hick’s helmet and even a Casey doll head. The figure stands at 5″ tall, features about 25 points of articulation and the authorized likeness of Newt actress Carrie Henn. At the show, the figure was priced at $30.

Overall
The Newt figure comes packaged on a plastic blister card, like most of the Aliens line. It features the new Aliens 30th Anniversary logo, and a San Diego Comic-Con logo. You do have to cut the plastic to remove the figure, so keep the cut clean to place the figure back in the packaging for storage. The figure includes a flashlight, a second grade award, Hick’s helmet and the Casey doll head. For those wondering, yes the helmet will fit on top of one of the Colonial Marines ‘ head sculpts. In the gallery, I used Hudson as an example.
Newt features an excellent sculpt. The detailed work on the overalls, shoes and accessories are top notch. The high level of detail helps the figure fit in perfectly with the existing line up, even though she stands a good 2″ smaller than the other human figures. The figure features strong texture work, especially on the clothing. You can easily see the dungaree texture and stitch lines, as well as latches and buttons. The head sculpt itself is quite well done. In many angles, you can clearly see the likeness of the young Carrie Henn shine through. The hair is a single solid piece that doesn’t sit too high, evoking the look of Newt’s knotted, messy hair in the film. The accessories also turned out well, with Casey’s doll head featuring a surprising amount of detail for such a tiny piece. the doll head also fits nicely into Newt’s left hand. The articulation doesn’t suffer, even on a smaller figure. All of the standard NECA style moveable joints are here, including waist articulation, arm and leg swivels and articulated ankles. The knees and elbows are single jointed, and both could be bent to about 90 degree angles. For the most part, the paint work is pretty strong throughout. NECA uses multiple layers of paint to mimic the dirt and filth, as well as their regular washes to make details more visible. The only spot where the paint falters a bit is on the face. The paint on the lips and one of her left eye are misaligned. This doesn’t appear to be the norm, but it was noticeable on this figure.
This is a great addition to the Aliens line up. Fans who were able to get to San Diego Comic-Con were able to grab, what is essentially an “Ultimate” Newt. Thankfully, a general release will allow even more people to grab the figure, and Newt is definitely worth adding to your Aliens collection. With the SDCC 2016 version, strong sculpting and articulation combined with some really nice accessories make for a great exclusive.
