Yesterday, we brought you the first gallery and review for the upcoming Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure Wyld Stallyns 2-Pack by NECA Toys. Today we’re back with a gallery for Rufus (played by the great George Carlin) from Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure. The Rufus Retro Mego Style Figure is available exclusively as part of Shout! Factory’s Bill and Ted’s Most Excellent Collection Blu-Ray Collectors Edition Box Set (outside of the U.S. he is being sold without the movies). The clothed figure stands at 8″ tall and includes some great accessories from the movie.

Overall
Like Bill and Ted, the Rufus figure comes packaged in a nice collector friendly window box. The box is modeled after the Phone Booth Time Machine, and shares some of the artwork with the cardboard phone booth that came with Bill and Ted. The box also features the bright, colorful style of the Bill and Ted box, giving the packaging a great 80’s retro look. Rufus sits on a plastic tray along with the accessories. The figure includes a cloth outfit, removable jacket, a cardboard Wyld Stallyns CD case, sunglasses, and a Circuits of Time Directory.
Right out of the box, it’s hard not to be impressed with the Rufus figure. For an exclusive of this nature, many companies would simply pack in a bare bones release. But NECA added in some fun choices for accessories, putting this on par with a standard release figure. The George Carlin head sculpt looks excellent in hand. It captures the look of the actor and character pretty much perfectly. The sunglasses are an accessory, and fit on the head sculpt without any issues, and they look perfectly to scale. The rounded sunglasses arms hold them in place on his face, or on top of his head. Along with the strong sculpting, the paint application here is handled well, with nice gradations in the hair and skin tones. The eye paint apps may be some of the best I’ve seen from this scale.
Rufus uses the Mego body from NECA, so articulation is very good throughout. This body type has over 25 points of articulation, o dynamic poses are easily possible. Joints are nice and tight throughout, especially the ankle joints. Nothing felt paint locked. The cloth outfit is loose enough that it doesn’t really hinder any of the movement. The black coat feels just a little too big, hiding the hands a bit. But, it can be removed to showcase Rufus in his stylish, futuristic all silver suit.
The Rufus figure is an excellent release from NECA, and make the Bill and Ted Blu-Ray release well worth picking up. The figure goes great with the Bill and Ted 2-pack, especially with the accessories included. Check out some select photos below and the full gallery after that.
