The One:12 Collective line up from Mezco Toyz was one of the fastest growing toy lines of 2016 and will get even more interesting in 2017. Mezco brought multiple licenses to the table, ranging from comics to movies, the cloth 6″ scale figure line has been a huge hit. Among the newer items released was their Frankenstein’s Monster, based on Boris Karloff’s genre defining portrayal of the monster in 1931’s Frankenstein. Mezco has taken great care in bringing the creature to figure form, with beautiful head sculpts, interchangeable hands and more. The figure is now available in stores, with multiple versions now released by Mezco. these include the standard black and white version (which we have here), the full color Previews Exclusive Version, and the new black and white figure with diorama doorway backdrop pieces.

Overall
The Mezco Frankenstein figure comes packaged in a nice, all black and white collector box. A slip cover protects the main box, though both the cover and box use the same graphics. The front has a striking Frankestein logo, while the back showcases some photos of the figure. The box opens up via a flap, that reveals the figure inside, and some photos from the original film. The Frankenstein figure sits in a nice plastic tray, with a plastic overlay to protect the figure and accessories. It included two head sculpts, an extra set of interchangeable hands, shackles and an articulated figure stand. The packaging as a whole is perfect for collectors. It’s easy to remove everything and place it back in for storage.
The figure itself stands about 6″ tall and has an incredible amount of articulation. The joints are all hidden inside the cloth outfit that is used. Unlike many figures of this size (and many of the first few One:12 Collective releases) the outfit used here is extremely form fitting. The thread used is tight nit and surprisingly realistic looking for the size. It’s tight on the figure without every feeling restrictive, allowing for a full range of motion in the arms, legs and torso. Even though the design of the outfit is very simple, it’s one of the best cloth outfits I’ve ever handled on a figure. Complimentign the well done outfit is an even more impressive overall figure sculpt. Mezco’s sculptors did an amazing job with the portraits. Both head sculpts capture very different moments from the film and they are both quite perfect. The detail on them is incredible and hauntingly life-like for a 6″ scale release. The likeness to the Boris Karloff portrayal is unmistakable. To go with the different portraits, Mezco included both relaxed and grasping hands that can be swapped out. Both the hands, which connect at the forearms, and the head sculpts, are very easy to swap out. They sit firmly on the joints, but require very little force to remove. The paint work used here is very subtle looking from afar, but is precise and detailed when examined up close. Mezco uses a very subtly colored series of grays and whites on the skin, with soft paint washes that add an extra layer of depth and realism. The eyes, hair and teeth are all very cleanly painted with no noticeable errors or paint bleeding.
The One:12 Collective Frankenstein’s Monster is one of the best Frankenstein figure ever released. It’s a near flawless take on the original creature design with a wonderful articulation system underneath. I can only hope this is not the only Universal Monster that Mezco produces in the format.
