With the resurgence of Madballs, we’re seeing numerous types of releases across different sizes and product types. Kidrobot is leading the charge, with Madballs for vinyl art collectors, blind box fans, standard foam Madballs and even keychains. The Madballs Keychains are what we’re looking at today. The series comes in a blind box assortment and are the smallest of the assorted offerings from Kidrobot. Each character comes blind boxed and features a (removable) key ring attached to the top of the head. There are 16 in total:

Overall
s with the larger blind box figures, the Madballs Keychains come in nicely designed Madballs packaging. Inside each box, the Madball is placed inside a foul bag. As far as I can tell, there’s no way to determine which one you’re getting. If you order a full set, the boxes come in a great looking counter display tray, with each tray including 24 boxes. This will give you all 16 Madballs plus a few doubles.
Each of the Madballs Keychains is about 1.5″ tall. On the top of each ball iswhere the keychain is attached. Fans who want to can remove the key ring. The sculpts on these are on par with the blind box mini figures, with a surprising amount of detail for such a small piece. Paint application is strong throughout. The keychain version lack the darker wash that the other, larger figures have, giving these a more toon-ish look. They are cast in a harder plastic, so they’re likely to be pretty durable if you do decide to use these as actual keychains.
As a fan of Madballs, I’m knee deep in great takes on the characters these days. I’d say, for me, the foam versions (review coming soon) and the blind box mini figures are the best Kidrobot Madballs right now. If you’re looking into collecting they keychains, I do recommend going for the full tray though. Though, in this style, I feel the blind box distribution makes a bit more sense. Most will likely only want a few of these to hang off their backpacks or key rings. If you aren’t a fan of blind boxes at all, these aren’t likely to sway you. For Madballs fans who just want to get the figures, without the hassle of blind boxes, they are offering standard release foam Madballs. For me, I’m going to take the stands from the mini figure assortment, and set the keychain versions up on my desk at work.
