Released in March, the Gears of War 4 – Del Walker Figure is the newest current release for the game from McFarlane Toys. In the game, Del Walker is a former operative in a COG Special Forces unit and close friend to JD Fenix, son of Marcus Fenix. The 7″ scale figure is part of the McFarlane Toys Color Tops Collection from the Blue Wave. The figure includes the Buzzkill, a Boltok Pistol and a figure stand.

Overall
The Gears of War 4 Del Walker figures comes in the standard Color Tops box. The packaging is a collector friendly window box, which allows fans to open the figure and place it back in the package for easy storage or display. The figure sits in a plastic tray, with a few twist ties holding the figure and the Buzzkill in place. Del includes the Buzzkill weapon, a Boltok Pistol and a figure stand with the Gears of War logo on it.
Like most figure from the McFarlane Toys color Tops line up, the Del Walker figure has an excellent overall sculpt. The figure is a great representation of Del’s character model from Gears of War 4. The head sculpt features a bit of extra texturing, which transitions nicely between the skin and hair on the figure. He even has a sculpted in eyebrow ring. The COG Special forces outfit looks great. The armor pieces have extremely fine detail work with sculpted in nicks and scrapes throughout, giving the armor a battle tested look. The handling areas such as the pants is equally well handled, with natural looking fabric and stitch lines. The sculpt is complimented by another strong paint job by the McFarlane Toys team. From top to bottom, Del is covered in multiple layers of paint, including darker washes to enhance the texture work. The eye detaling on the head sculpt is clean and sharp, with only the painted stubble looking a bit unnatural on close inspection. Armor has metallic washes over it, adding in reflection-like highlights throughout.
It’s in the handling and posing of the figure where a few issues did creep in. Like many of the early Color Tops releases, Del Walker is sculpted with a single intended pose. There is some articulation on Del, but it tends to be a bit odd. While he features great range of motion in the torso, knees, neck and full articulation sculpting in the shoulders, the overall range of motion is quite limited. Armor sculpting prevent the arms from achieve the outward motion that would otherwise be available. The hips have unnatural swivel cuts, rendering the knee and overall leg articulation useless. The arms have only swivel joints at the elbows, which allows for limited posing options.
If you’re a fan of the Gears of War game series and aren’t looking to pose your figures, then Del is an easy to recommend pick up. The articulation doesn’t match up with recent McFarlane releases, such as the Titanfall 2 Jester figure. However, the sculpt and paint work both shine here.
