Extreme Sets have been a highlight of the collecting community over the last year or so, putting out high quality pop up dioramas designed for collectible figures of all kinds. They’ve recently released Wave 3 of the sets, which include the Command Station (for 3.75 scale figures), Nela Level 6 (alien ship), Headquarters (Evil Robot Base), and the Locker Room. Today we are looking at their Nela Level 6 set. It’s another HUGE set, one that deviates from the standard fare. The back walls are actually 3D in nature, with an overhang, ledge, and even some structural beams. They connect with a differently shaped center piece, and come with 3 large floors. On top of that, 2 of the large pieces can be connected to form a tunnel! It’s definitely one of their most complex yet and makes for an impressive display. Overall Thoughts:
The Level 6 set is impressive in it’s scale. Designed for 6 inch figures, it spans 4+ feet wide, and 11 inches tall. The floor pieces will shoot out a bit from there too. The backdrop is not just a flat piece of art this time, it gives the whole set up some depth. I think this set is great for those looking for a semi-permanent display piece, one where you want to tuck in a ton of figures. The open flooring, roofing, and ledges give you plenty of places to work your figures in. From a photography angle, I really dug the alternative configuration of the tunnel. It provided new angles and shots not easily accomplished without a full diorama in most cases. The only thing negative about the whole set is also it’s main selling point, the complexity. For me, I like to set up and break down quick for shoots. This requires a bit more time to get going as every piece is 3D and requires multiple steps to set up. If you are just looking for a collection piece, this is perfect. If you don’t mind a session for setup to get the cool shots, also great. For quick on-the-fly photography, not the best.
That being said, the flooring is great and if you plan on using the full set every once and a while, the floors can be used with other sets more regularly.
