For the 25th anniversary of Terminator 2: Judgement Day, the film was converted to 3D and was released in theaters overseas. The 3D conversion was initially supposed to hit North American theaters soon after, but it ran into delays and was pushed back to this year. The film returns to theaters with remastered 3D visuals on August 25th. To celebrate the release, NECA Toys has released a special edition version of the T-800 from the film. The figure uses the updated body from the Ultimate T2 T-800 Figure, and includes a new paint job, a shotgun, a pistol and an empty flower box.

Overall
This special edition release of the T-800 is packaged in a nice collector friendly window box. The design looks good, with a pic of the movie T-800 on the front, and a few shots from NECA’s photo shoot on the back. Also shown on the back are the upcoming Terminator Cinemachines. The packaging is minimalistic, but effective. The T-800 sits on a plastic tray along with the accessories. Included with the release are two head sculpts, a shotgun, a pistol and a rose box.
When NECA upgraded the T2 T-800 for the Ultimate release in 2015, they added in some great lower body articulation. This release uses the exact same body as that release. There are a few notable differences between the releases. This figure includes a black t-shirt as opposed to a gray one, regular hands instead of gloved hands, and a very glossy paint job on the leather parts of the outfit. Otherwise, this is a pretty similar release to the Ultimate version. The sculpted details are still fantastic and the figure sports over 25 points of articulation. The range of motion is great, with nearly any pose possible that you’d want from a Terminator figure. NECA did another great job with the paint deco here, and I actually like the glossier look compared to the Ultimate versions more matte finish. Skin tones look mostly natural, the eyes on the second head sculpt look clean and there’s no noticeable paint bleeding or misaligned edges. the only sculpting issue I ran into was with the sunglasses. The edges look to be a bit mangled, as if they didn’t come out of the mold cleanly. I haven’t seen any others with this same issue, but it’s something to be on the lookout for.
The figure includes some good accessories. The pistol and Shotgun look to be the same as the prior versions. Both weapons use the harder plastic, so there’s little chance of warping. The main draw for people will be the rose box, allowing fans to recreate the Terminator walking through the Galleria, leading up to his first battle with the T-1000. It’s disappointing the figure didn’t come with any roses though. I was, thankfully, able to find some at a local AC Moore that scaled perfectly (check the doll house section of the store). The shotgun does fit perfectly into the box and the box itself is fairly sturdy.
The choice to pick this up will depend on a few factors for fans. The differences between this and the ultimate aren’t massive. The new paint is nice and the rose box accessory is perfect. If you’re looking to complete all of his looks from the movie, or simply missed out on the Ultimate T-800, then this is absolutely worth picking up.
